Finn grabbing him in a chokehold. Sean dropped his precious picture and scrabbled at Finn’s arms as
he was dragged backwards toward the vendor exit. He struggled with all his might, digging his heels
in the ground, but unable to gain purchase as the much-stronger swan hauled him away.
My egg!
Something exploded inside Sean and he went wild—scratching, yelling, kicking, biting—until
Finn yowled and let him go. But he wasn’t done with the fucker yet.
He’ll never touch my egg. Never!
The fox shifter was next on his list.
Ignoring the chaos that had erupted around him from the sudden turn of events, Sean charged
Finn with the aim of getting a good dose of eye-pecking in. Right as he was about to hurl himself at
the asshole swan, a piercing scree sounded, and Finn shrieked as Avi’s talons dug into his neck.
Blood spurted from where Avi’s eagle had pierced Finn’s flesh then more bedlam exploded as
wolves and bobcats appeared from all sides, rushing Finn as the rest of Kellan’s old herd appeared to
defend their injured leader.
“Come on, Sean! Get back! They’ve got this.”
Kellan tugged on his arm and he stumbled as Kellan pulled him away. Sean peered over his
shoulder to make sure Avi wasn’t being hurt, but too much was happening all at once. Kellan led him
to a booth across the aisle where an older woman was watching over Erik in his stroller.
Sean held his breath as the flurry of fighting raged. With flying tufts of fur and bursts of feathers,
angry snarls and pained squawks—the action was a blur as the violence played out before them. He
whimpered, unable to tell if the red staining Avi’s feathers was his own or from Finn.
He has to be okay. Has to!
Suddenly, a high-pitched squeal rent the air and two bedraggled members of the swan herd
attempted to fly away. Their escape attempt was thwarted by pouncing wolves and it was then that
Sean recognized one of them as Vic. As he took in the scene, his gaze landed on the blood-covered
body of Finn lying on the carpet, his limbs splayed in awkward directions, his head resting on a heap
of books that had been knocked over during the melee.
A lump filled his throat. Where’s Avi?
Sean gasped as Avi’s eagle swooped down then shed its feathers before elongating and
morphing into his beloved Alpha. He flung himself into Avi’s arms, running his palms over Avi’s
