The bunker ventilation map changed.
The airflow reversed.
Instead of carrying the biological agent into the medical ward, the emergency system redirected the air toward the underground containment chamber.
Hawk stared at the readings.
“They did it.”
Wynn gripped my hand.
“What about the weapon?”
“Temperature falling. Dispersal disabled.”
Adam raised the radio again.
“Boone, report.”
Static answered.
Then a weak voice.
“Still here.”
Boone.
I closed my eyes.
“Russ?”
“Still ugly,” Boone replied.
Russ’s voice followed.
“I’m going to shoot him.”
“Good.”
Adam’s shoulders relaxed slightly.
“Ghost?”
No answer.
The relief disappeared.
“Ghost, report.”
Static.
Boone’s voice changed.
“He’s down.”
