Roth crossed the clearing and found the entrance behind an old shelving unit.

A steel hatch lay beneath it.

No electronic lock.

Only a rusted wheel.

He pulled.

It didn’t move.

Adam joined him.

Together, they forced the wheel to turn.

The seal broke.

A dark shaft opened beneath us.

A metal ladder descended into the mountain.

Hawk shone his light down.

“No visible movement.”

Roth went first.

Adam followed.

I looked at Wynn.

“You’re not climbing that ladder.”
