Adam glanced between us before motioning toward me.
“You’re with Hawk.”
I lowered Samir carefully.
Boone took my side of the young man’s weight.
Wynn caught my wrist.

Her fingers were warm.
Familiar.
Far too easy to remember.
I looked down at her hand.
The gold band she’d once worn was gone.
Mine had been gone for years too.
But I could still feel its weight.
“I’ll be right behind you.”
“You can’t promise that.”

I met her eyes.

“Lucas—”
“Go with Boone.”
The fear in her eyes stopped me.
Wynn had never been afraid for herself.
Not in the warehouse.
Not when the sniper fired.
Not while returning for Samir.
But she was afraid now.
