Thankfully, her boss took to the idea well and made room for Posey at the office in town. Since her lease on her apartment was month to month, there wasn't a fee to move and so far, our plan marched ahead.

“Meow!” Smokey twirled around my legs and jumped into my lap on the couch. I rubbed her down, running my hand over her tail.

“It won't just be me and you anymore, buddy. But I know you'll love your new mom.”

Smokey meowed more and head butted my hand for more pets.

The night dragged on, but I entertained myself with documentaries and yard work. The winter season would head this way soon and I liked to seal up the cabin.

A few hours later, I settled in on the couch when a knock sounded on the door.

I sat up and listened much like last time and Déjà vu hit me for a moment.

The knock came a second time.

I walked over to the door. Who the hell could it be? I never got company. Well, except the one time that changed my life.

I peeked through the peephole and gasped.

No way. It couldn't be.

I looked again, then pinched myself.

I had to be dreaming.

I threw the door open and there stood my girl. My forever.

“Posey? What are you—”

“Knock, knock. I'm home.” She jumped into my arms and wrapped herself around me. Her lips found mine seconds later, and soon she was pushing my shirt off my shoulders.

I walked us backwards inside and slammed the door closed behind me, blocking out the cold air as clothes began flying in every direction.

I didn't ask questions. I didn't care. My girl was in my arms and that's all that mattered.

“I can't believe you're here. You're really here.”

“Yes, I'm here. I couldn't wait any longer.”

We fell to the floor in a heap of naked limbs and within seconds I slid inside her, so deep we both cried out.

“I love you. So fucking much.”

“I love you too, Ford. Forever. You and me.”

It didn't take long for us to both explode, knowing each other’s bodies and having spent so much time apart. And when we finished, spent and panting in each other’s arms, I held her close.

I wasn't ever letting her go.

A month later, I proposed.

Two months later, we married each other on the top of the mountain in the middle of a snowstorm.

And nine months later, we welcomed our first child, Lilibeth.
