Chapter Sixteen

It was barely dawn as Zack started to come awake, the light was flooding into the room already, and the birds were singing. Ava was wrapped around him like ivy, and he wouldn’t fucking change it for the world. She was using his shoulder as a pillow. Her beautiful rich auburn hair was spread out over his chest. Her leg was casually thrown over his, his hand resting on her hip, the other holding her hand to his heart.

Last night had been a night of revelations, the biggest being that he was a fool, although he wasn’t sure that would be such a revelation to some. Hearing her say she loved him ranked as one of the best moments of his life.

This woman, his woman, was something else. She was everything. The mother of the son that he was getting to know but already loved beyond reason, his friend, his lover, and soon his wife. He would spend eternity with her, and he couldn’t fucking wait.

He dropped a kiss on her head as she stirred and moved her leg, rubbing the feather soft skin against his cock, which was already hardening. It was incredible that all it took was seeing the way her body moved so fluidly, or a certain look, and he was ready to take her. He wondered if they had been like this before, and part of him thought they had.

The time they’d had together when he was overseas, they had fucked non-stop, but he hadn’t allowed himself to let her in. He had always held something of himself back from her. At the time he hadn’t known what, but now he recognised it as fear.

Love could make you weak; it could be snatched away and turn you into a shell of a man. It wasn’t until he was kidnapped and tortured, and the only thoughts that kept him sane were thoughts of Ava that he realised love made you strong, it gave you more strength than anything else.

When he had been rescued though, he hadn’t been the same man. The fear of her rejection was what had really stopped him from contacting her, and oh how he had missed out because of his cowardice.

His son had missed out on a father, and his beautiful Ava had faced pregnancy and childbirth alone. Something he would regret forever.

He felt eyes on him and turned to see her watching him, a saucy smile curving her mouth.

“Good morning,” she said throatily, and his dick hardened even more.

“Yes, it is, isn’t it,” he whispered, as he moved, rolling her to her back as he came over her, his leg now pinning her down.

He bent and kissed the underside curve of her jaw as his hand cupped her breast, his thumb rubbing over the nipple that was pebbled and hard. Zack licked the tip, and she arched and moaned beneath him.

“Fuck, I can’t get enough of you. How can I want you again after last night?” They had made love twice after coming to bed, and still, he wanted her again now like a man starved for human touch. “You make me crazy,” he exclaimed, as he trailed kisses down her flat stomach and the slight hint of silvery marks, showing where his son had been cradled safely from harm. He kissed them as she writhed.

“Zack!”

“Yes, Green Eyes?” he rasped, as his stubbled chin grazed her inner thigh causing her to shudder against him.

“Hurry!”

But Zack didn’t want to hurry, he wanted to savour her, and worship her. It wasn’t until much later that Zack would realise that while he wasn’t a fool, he was a novice at this parenthood thing.

As Zack sat down to breakfast next to his beautiful family, even the sight of his cock blocking young son made him smile. Frank had walked in seconds before and had stopped dead when he saw Ava with her arms around his neck, his around her waist.

The look on his face was priceless, especially when he broke into a giant grin. “Not so dumb after all,” he muttered and whistled as he sat down and poured himself a coffee.

“Morning Dad,” Ava said, as she walked to her father and kissed his cheek.

“Morning precious girl,” he replied with a wink at Zack who had also sat down at the table.

“Where is mom?”

“She felt a little under the weather, so I left her in bed.”

Instant worry crossed her features, and Zack frowned, not liking her upset. “Would you like me to get a doctor to come and look at her?” Zack asked as he sipped his coffee.

Frank shook his head, “No, it’s nothing I’m sure it’s just jet lag catching up with her.”

“Well, if you change your mind, let me know.”

“I will, son.”

“Can I talk to you after breakfast? It won’t take long. I have to get to the office in half an hour though, is that okay?”
