“Okay, I’ll be there now.”
Owen ducked back out and Shane turned to her. “If you ever need anything, you call me. Night or day.”
“I will, and same goes. You’re a good man and never forget it.”
He grinned a naughty grin. “I know I’m good.”
She slapped his arm at his teasing and stepped away fighting the need to cling to him and beg him to stay or take her with him. “Get out of here,” she laughed instead.
He growled and hauled her against him for one last toe-curling kiss before he released her and walked to the door, not looking back. He didn’t see the tears or the way she ran to the window to watch him leave.

It tooksome time but Emme finally curled up on the sofa in their ‘home’ with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s. A few minutes later there was a knock on the door. She frowned and went to answer it. Opening it, she found Zin, Celeste, Jace, and Lucy on her doorstep.
Lucy pushed past and shoved the bottle of wine at her. “You didn’t think we would let you mope on your own, did you?”
Jace kissed her cheek and squeezed her shoulder. “Chin up, buttercup”
Emme smiled. This was why she loved Fortis—they were family and family stuck together.
