He knew having her at his home would test his resolve regarding his attraction to her, but he would not endanger her life because he couldn’t control his dick. It was time to take the Princess back to Hereford.

“Let’s get him locked up until we can be sure who’s behind this. You two can stay with him while Alex and I get the Princess secured.”

“Oh, great, we get the fugly one and you get the beauty. That seems fair.”

“Can’t help it. She likes me better,” Liam said and laughed.

“Hmm,” Waggs hummed.

Liam’s jaw flexed as the unsaid words in that one sound echoed around the room. “What the fuck does ‘Hmm’ mean?”

“Nothing. Just be careful. A woman like that can twist you until you don’t know which way is up. I’m sure she wouldn’t mean to, but you guys are miles apart.”

Liam resented Waggs shoving that fact down his throat when he already knew it well enough. “Know that, brother, but would appreciate it if you kept your fucking nose out of it.”

Waggs held up his hands in supplication. “Meant no harm.”

“Good. Now, can we just get on with our fucking jobs and stop being fannies?”

Liam didn’t wait for an answer, he was angry but not just at Waggs for what he’d said but because he was right, and Liam hated it. He was falling for a woman he could never have and that sucked donkey balls.

CHAPTER TEN

TAAMIRA WAS FOGGY-HEADED FROM THE SLEEPING PILL SHE’ D TAKEN LAST NIGHT AS THEY BOARDED the flight to the UK. Now, after some food and water, her head was a little clearer. They were speeding towards Hereford from the tiny airport where they had landed, and she had to admit she was more than a little intrigued to see the city where Liam lived.

Never getting further north than London when she’d been to the United Kingdom, she grew more enchanted with the countryside she could see as they sped past fields and fields filled with grain or cattle and horses.

Liam had explained he wanted her where he could protect her better. Away from public places as much as possible. After the fright of the man trying to attack her last night, she had readily complied. After all, she could write her speech and conduct calls for her charities and such from anywhere.

He’d told her almost nothing about where she would be staying, just that she would be safe, comfortable, and have access to space.

“Is it true there is a Cathedral here that dates back to the seventh century?” Taamira asked as Liam drove them towards the town that was his home. Alex had graciously let her sit upfront, which was a change for her. She was used to being chauffeured but found she enjoyed riding in the front.

Liam glanced at her with a frown. “I have no idea.”

“But you have been to see it, right?”

“Yes, I’ve been to services there.”

Taamira saw a slight frown mar his forehead and wondered what had caused it.

Alex leaned forward, poking his head between the seats. “The Cathedral has a stained glass window dedicated to SAS soldiers and the Special Air Service 22 regiment.”

“Oh.” Taamira looked at her hands in her lap; she knew she had somehow touched a nerve with Liam. “I am sorry if I upset you.”

Liam’s gaze swung to her, and he shook his head. “You didn’t upset me. It just made me realise how long it is since I went.”

“Would you take me to see it?”

Liam dipped his chin. “Yes, if I can.”

Taamira smiled and then looked out of the window as they drew up outside an old brick house down a long lane. She looked up and saw it was actually a converted barn with some, if not all, of the original features. The door beside her opened, and she startled as Liam poked his head in, she’d been so lost in her admiration of this property.

“This is a truly magnificent home. Are you sure the owners won’t mind us using it?”

Liam smirked and shook his head. “No, Princess, they won’t mind at all.”

Liam turned to Alex. “If you take the car back to work, I can use the one in the garage.”
