“It just wasn’t what you wanted?”

“No, yes.” Rose shifted to look at him better. “Yes, I wanted marriage and obviously babies,” she pointed to her tummy, “but I wanted more too. I wanted a career not just a job. I didn’t want to depend on someone else for my financial security. I wanted more.”

“I take your parents didn’t approve?” Omega knew the answer from the short time he’d spent with her parents but wanted to hear it from her.

Rose shook her head. “No, not at all. They thought I was getting above my station and becoming uppity. I guess that’s why Harlan and I were so close. He always supported me no matter what, and wiped away my tears more times than I can count.”

Omega didn’t like to think of her relying on the prick he’d instantly disliked and suspected was stalking her in some way, but he was perversely glad Rose had him in those years. “I hate that you went through that, Rose. You deserve to have all those things and more. Our task force certainly wouldn’t be the success it is without you. You’re pivotal in our team, the very center of what we do. We’d be lost with you.”

She smiled and his heart kicked up, his belly dropping with a feeling so strong he could hardly breathe.

“You’re just saying that because you’re sweet on me.”

Omega laughed and it felt good and freeing. “Sweet on you, hey?”

Rose blushed and he wanted to kiss her. He lifted her hair away from her face, stroking the soft skin of her cheek.

“Yeah, sweet on me, which is fortunate because I kinda like you, too.”

“You do?”

“Yep.”

“You’re making it real hard for me not to kiss you right now with all this sweetness, Rose.”

She moved forward and the sweet curve of her breasts pushed against his chest, the heat from her body surrounding him, her scent, that light floral scent, intoxicating him.

“Maybe I want you to kiss me.”

He almost groaned when she licked her bottom lip, her pink tongue sending his mind crazy with so many different thoughts. “Rose, we need to keep your blood pressure down and right now, I’m pretty worried about my own.”

Her husky laugh was like liquid sex to his ears.

“It’s just a kiss, Aide.”

“It’s never just a kiss with you, Rose.”

He was holding on to his control by a thread. He should get up and leave but he was helpless to deny her anything. Raising his hand, he cupped the back of her head as she tilted it back and moved in closer, until he was almost touching her, the electricity from her lips sending sparks through his body. They were sharing the same breath, and as if it all clicked, nothing else mattered except kissing her.

His lips found hers and it was just as he’d said, never a simple kiss. With his mouth on hers, her rubbing her lips against his, her breathy sighs melding with his groans, her tongue stroking against his, it was everything.

His hand gripped her hair, tilting her head, so he could better taste her sweetness, consume the beauty inside her. It soon became a battle as they each fought for dominance, their teeth nipping, tongues lashing.

He could feel her hands moving until her hands were on the naked skin of his abdomen as she pulled his shirt free of his pants. Omega shivered as if a thousand volts had gone through him at her touch. He should pull away but her hands were moving over his naked skin, sure, firm touches as she ran her hands over his chest.

His cock ached it was so hard from wanting her, but he needed to wait. It wasn’t safe for her to have sex but maybe he could give her some relief without actual sex. Ripping her hand away, he broke the kiss and gazed into her deep brown eyes edged with gold and saw the desire there. “I want to taste you. Is it safe for you and the baby?”

Rose nodded. “Yes, oh God, yes. Please.”

He smirked at her desperation knowing he felt the same way. “I’ve got you, my Rose. I’ll always have you.”

The doorbell ringing seemed to break the spell that was over them and it took them a second to realize what it was. He wanted to curse at whoever it was for interrupting them but knew it was probably for the best.

“Ignore it, they might go away.”

Omega smirked at Rose and dropped a kiss full of regret on her pouty lips. “We can’t, it might be work.”

Rose let go of his body, her hands skirting over his skin as he stood, and he was just holding on by a thread from giving in to whatever she wanted when the doorbell rang again.

“I’ll get it, you rest.”

He took in the sight of her spread out on the bed, her hair tousled, clothes askew, and knew she’d never been more beautiful.

“Okay.”

He almost committed a felony when he got to the door to find it was a flower delivery guy with pink roses for Rose from Harlan Goodwin. He instead took them up to her, but she was already asleep, and he was happy about it. She needed to rest and he needed to figure out what Harlan really wanted from Rose, if he was a threat to her, and in what way.
