The fake furrow in his brow made her want to vomit.

“That’s terrible news. Do you perhaps have a picture or a name for this girl?”

He handed her the cognac and brushed his finger over her arm as he did, making his intentions very clear as he undressed her with his eyes.

She shoved the picture under his nose, dislodging the wandering fingers she wanted to break in multiple places. “My sister’s name is Andrea. Do you know her?”

He looked down and not a shadow crossed his face before he dismissed her sister. “No, I don’t recall meeting her.”

“Oh, that’s a shame.” Charlie bit back calling him out on his lies, knowing men like him didn’t respond well to being called out, especially in public.

“Perhaps she merely took a vacation.”

“Maybe, but that isn’t like her at all.”

“Well, young women can be irresponsible and get themselves into all sorts of situations that can lead to trouble they can’t get out of. But I’m sure that’s not the case for this girl.”

Charlie worked through an entire fantasy of spitting in his face and then drop kicking this asshole off the balcony as he looked at her with his snake oil charm. He knew exactly where Andrea was and what had happened because he was behind it, and she’d prove it.

“Lucky for her she has a sister who’ll stop at nothing to find her then.” Challenge thrown down, she levelled a glare on the man responsible and waited for his response.

“Indeed.”

Playing with the ring on his pinkie finger, he let his eyes move over her again as if assessing her before lifting a hand to her hair and fingering the end. “I wish you luck, Miss…?”

“You can call me Mrs Bishop.”

“Ah, a married woman. No worries. I don’t mind sharing.”

“Yeah, well, I fucking do. So take your hands off my wife before I break every bone in your body.”

Chapter 15

Bishop felt murderous as he watched Carter Cavendish ogle Charlie like a piece of meat. When she hadn’t come back from the toilet, he’d searched every inch of the club before finding the back entrance to the VIP area. Not having back-up had been a tactical decision and he’d been comfortable with it given the times they’d worked together without it in the past. Until he couldn’t find her, then he cursed himself for not asking Watchdog to track them.

Carter Cavendish stepped away from Charlie as two men moved in to cover him. He held up a hand to the man who staggered up the stairs looking like he’d gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson and assessed him, seeing the truth in his words.

Noah’s chest heaved with breath as he tried to clear the red from his vision and pulled Charlie closer to him. Just that simple touch had his heart rate returning to normal.

“Sweetheart, Carter was just saying that, unfortunately, he’s never met my sister.”

“That so?”

“It is, Mr Bishop, and I apologise for my forwardness but your wife is an exceptionally beautiful woman and as she was here alone, I assumed you weren’t the type to mind.”

“She wasn’t here alone. She was with me when your goon squad dragged her up here.”

“You misunderstand. I merely wanted to help and as it seems I can’t help you, I’ll have my men escort you out.”

“I can find our way out.”

Bishop took Charlie’s hand and headed toward the stairs. He was getting them both out of there before he followed through on his threat of earlier and killed someone.

“Mr Bishop.”

Bishop clenched his jaw and put his body between Charlie and Carter. “What?”

“Perhaps you should take better care of your wife in future. Anything could happen to a lovely treasure such as she.”
