“True.”
“Now, let’s go rattle some cages and see what today brings us.”
“More carnage no doubt.”
“You love the carnage.”
“I did, but I’m growing tired of it all. Don’t you ever want a quieter life?”
“Every damn day.”
“Then why do we do it, Duchess?”
“The world needs us. They just don’t know it and if not us, then who? Plus, we’d get bored within ten minutes if we retired.”
“You might be right, but maybe we should look at recruiting some more members. I’m getting too old for this shit.”
“You’re not even forty yet.”
“Close enough and my body feels one hundred and fifty.”
She slapped him in the gut. “Time to get in the gym, old man.”
“Fuck you. I could still whoop anyone of you.”
“Who wants a whooping?” Hurricane asked from where he was leaning on the door.
“Yeah, not you. Even I know my limits.”
Duchess left Bás talking with Hurricane, satisfied that she knew enough to keep her team safe—for now.
Chapter 20
His eyes tracked her as Nadia paced around the room. The morning had seen much less action than he’d expected after last night. The team, minus Lotus, were waiting around as information began to trickle into them. He hated to admit it but the atmosphere lacked a certain something without the snippy Lotus to give them all shit.
Damon sat beside him and Gideon smirked, seeing the black eye.
“Dick.”
“Jerk-off.”
“Oh, go boil your head.”
Gideon laughed and then hissed as his lips split again.
“Serves you right.”
“Maybe it does but I won’t stand for anyone speaking to her like that, not even you, brother.”
Gideon followed Nadia’s movements as she spoke with Titan, her hands moving animatedly.
“So it’s the real deal? She isn’t just one of your playthings?”
Gideon huffed out a laugh. “Nope, she’s the one.”
“Wow, I never thought I’d see the day my big brother, the playboy, got taken off the market in such dramatic fashion.”
“Me either, but I love her.”
