“Wasn’t it part of our deal that we’d let the other person know if we were interested in someone?” I inquire.

Summer hums. “I’m not interested in him.”

Well, thank god for small favors.

“But.” She taps the sucker against her bottom lip. My eyes are drawn to the movement. “I am, however, interested in what you would do about it if I was.”

Summer steps closer but instead of standing in front of me, she lifts herself up on the counter, crossing her ankles and slowly swirling her tongue around the stupid piece of candy.

“Why do you even have that in your mouth?” I finally ask.

I’ve seen her probably eat two suckers since I’ve known her. There’s no reason for her to be this enthusiastic about the damn candy. Watching her mouth makes me lose focus on what I should be telling her. I’m supposed to tell her to get back to the living room, right? Or maybe not. Oh, definitely not when she’s making a quiet slurping sound around the sucker.

I’ve officially decided that I can’t take it anymore.

“Give it to me.” I turn my whole body to face her, holding out my hand.

“No,” she’s quick to argue. “It’s mine.”

“Give. It. To. Me.”

I should know by the way she tries to hide her grin that whatever she had planned is absolutely working, but I need to put some goddamn distance between her and the fucking sucker because now I really want something else hitting her tongue.

“And if I don’t?” Summer challenges.

I’m already stepping closer and spreading her legs so I can stand between them. We’re now face to face, our noses brushing against each other.

“If you don’t give it to me, I’m going to make you choke on my dick instead of the fucking sucker.”

My words seem to startle her just as much as they do me because her eyes widen and that grin falls from her face. I think that I might’ve crossed a line, but then she chews on her bottom lip and says the words that unlock everything.

“You promise?” she asks.

I’ve always known it, but this just solidifies that Summer is going to be the death of me.

Instead of answering, I take the sucker from her hand and put it into my mouth instead. Without a falter in my movements, I tap her thigh. “Lift up.”

She does so without complaining or teasing or brattiness. And Jesus Christ, I think I might let this kind of power go to my head.

With both of my hands, I pull off her shorts and underwear in one swift movement. I help her scoot back a little more on the counter so her back is resting against the mirror, and bend her legs at the knee so her bare feet are resting flat against the edge of the counter. Eventually, she’s spread out for me.

I’d love to drop to my knees and dip my tongue into her, but I have other plans for tonight.

I take the candy out of my mouth with a pop and begin to run it along her inner thighs. “So, you’re just going to let a guy touch you when you don’t even want it?” I point out. “Just to get a rise out of me?”

Summer chuckles breathlessly. “Yeah. Pretty much.”

I lightly brush my thumb over her clit, putting the sucker back into my mouth to wet it again. Before my brain can even catch up to what I’m doing, I replace my thumb on her clit with the candy, lightly swirling it around. Summer’s eyes widen and her body jerks forward like she wasn’t expecting me to do that.

Neither was I.

“Why’d you want to get a rise out of me, Summer?” I lean in and press the candy harder against her.

“Because…” Her breath shakes and intertwines with mine. “Because I like knowing you want me.”

Want her?

That’s an understatement. I need her. I crave her. If there’s a purpose for my existence at all, then it’d simply be to exist in Summer’s orbit. To please her. Make her happy. To give her whatever she wants.
