“And you are still wearing boots and trousers.” She wiggled her fingers at his breeches and pouted adorably.
“Gracious, you must think me the worst lover you’ve ever had,” he teased.
She laughed as he tugged off his boots and went to work on his falls.
“You are my worst, but…” she placed a finger absently on her lips—swollen from his kisses and said, “You are also my most magnificent.”
“Ah. Then I’ll do my best to hold my place.”
She smiled and sat on the edge of the bed as he stalked closer. Then froze. And cursed.
“What is it? What’s wrong?”
“I came here for breakfast, so of course I didn’t bring any protection with me. I only take a sheath when there’s a chance I might meet a woman. Not when I’m having toast and coffee with my friend and his sister.”
“Oh.” She frowned and then bit her bottom lip. “Is there something else we can do? To make sure we don’t have to worry about… anything.”
He smiled at her eagerness. She’d been a shy virgin the night of the party and while she’d explored that night with him, it was clear she was now more comfortable with her body—and his—by the way her fingers trailed over his side.
He wanted her. He’d always wanted her. Back when he’d been barely a man, before she’d wed Hamlin, he’d hoped to claim her as his wife one day.
Even now he didn’t know if being her lover would be enough for his tattered heart. But like always, he was willing to take whatever she offered.
And now she was offering her body and he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to win her heart.
“We have hands,” he answered her question while sliding his hands across her breasts, smiling when her nipples hardened in response to his touch. “We also have mouths.” He kissed her on the lips before placing other kisses along her neck to that place by her ear that made her sigh with desire.
Both his hands and his mouth could bring her great pleasure, but he wanted to be inside her. To claim her as his for whatever period of time she’d allow. Perhaps if he left her before his release… Except that method didn’t always work. If only he’d thought to bring—
“Gray.”
Celia winced as one would expect when the man kissing her breasts called out her brother’s name.
“Gray would most likely have letters,” he explained. “I could sneak into his room and get one.”
“Yes.” She practically shoved him out of bed. “Of course. That’s brilliant. And he’s surely left for his ride by now.”
“What if one of the servants sees me?”
She touched him then curved her fingers around his length to stroke. “Make sure they don’t.”
After putting himself to rights, Kit peeked out the door in both directions before hurrying down the hall. He’d never realized how much noise a man of his size could make just by walking quickly. Fortunately, no one saw him.
He pushed open the door and went to the stand beside Graham’s bed, where such things were kept. Nothing. Around to the stand on the other side of the bed, he found what he was after. He tucked it in his jacket and was halfway to the door when the inner door opened and James, Gray’s valet, stepped in, being the attentive servant he was. Damn.
“My lord. Is there something you needed? I believe Lord Penbrook is already out for his ride.”
“Ah, yes. He is. He asked me to stop and pick something up for him. Something of a delicate nature.” Kit patted his coat pocket.
James frowned. “Very well. I’ll replenish his necessaries immediately.”
“You’re a good man.” Kit paused at the door. Should he say something to ensure the valet’s silence or would requesting silence force James to mention it to Gray when otherwise he would just chalk the matter up to their normal roguish behavior?
Deciding not to say anything else, Kit left the room and once he felt sure the door wasn’t going to reopen, he turned in the opposite direction to go back to the willing woman waiting for him.
He entered and held up the vellum. “Now, where were we?”
He gazed upon the naked woman stretched across the bed and nearly came undone. The sun touched her body in places he wanted to press his lips.
