She somehow slept through her bath and me dressing her. I was surprised to see a crib waiting in the room, so I smiled and placed her inside.
I was grateful she stayed asleep because Oaklynn could be a little fussy whenever somebody woke her up too soon.
After making sure she was comfortable, I took a long shower and washed the entire day off of me. I was exhausted, but for some reason, I was also feeling confident and sexy.
Once I dried off, I carefully replaced the bandages around my damaged nails. They were still sore as hell, but at least the throbbing wasn’t as bad as it had been the day before.
I slipped into a short black lace nightgown and put on a matching floor-length robe. It had fluffy black feathers around the collar and wrists, and I couldn’t lie, I looked good as hell in it.
I oiled my body, sprayed on some smell-good, and picked up my phone to check the cameras. One of the security guards was stationed in the hallway between King’s bedroom and the guest room across from his.
I checked King’s camera first and found him knocked out in bed, then switched to the guest room and saw Summer sleeping just as peacefully. I smiled, closed my phone, tossed it onto the bed, and headed toward the kitchen because I was starving.
There wasn’t much food in the guesthouse, but I found strawberries and Cool Whip in the refrigerator. I rinsed the strawberries, grabbed a plate, and went to town dipping them into the Cool Whip.
Then I had the bright idea to add a little bubbly to the mix.
I walked over to the minibar, picked out one of the best bottles of champagne they had, and poured myself a glass before returning to the kitchen.
Once I got back to the island, I closed my eyes and slowly twisted my neck from side to side. It was still sore from fighting Ginger. I hadn’t been joking when I said I thought I pulled something.
I had managed to put on a front all day, but my back was on fire.
I leaned forward against the island, attempting to stretch it out.
“Damn.”
My eyes flew open.
I gasped and jumped in the middle of chewing, banging my knee against the island.
“Ow! Shit!”
Ozy laughed as he walked closer.
“My bad, love. I didn’t mean to scare you. I texted, but you never responded.”
I rubbed my knee while smiling a little. “Sorry. My phone is in the bedroom. I only came out here to get a snack.”
“No biggie. I was just trying to let you know I was on my way back.”
“Oh, okay.”
His eyes moved over me before returning to my face.
“How were King and Summer?”
“They were good. They’re both really good kids. Summer is smart as hell too. They had a good time at the pool.”
“That’s good.”
Silence fell between us again.
I watched him for a moment. “Your uncle... how is he?”
The amusement left his face. He slid both hands into the pockets of his sweatpants and lowered his head.
“He’s doing better. I’m a little pissed at him for not telling me he hadn’t been feeling well for the past couple of days. All this probably could’ve been avoided.” He paused and rubbed the back of his neck. “But seeing him laid out on that floor like that did something to me.”
