It was the Slayer’s hands that made me fall apart, but it was all with Adam’s direction, and I’m truly not sure what to say.
Adam clears his throat. “It appears this bond between me and the Slayer is shifting. Neither one of us completely disappears when the other has control of the body anymore. But if you’re uncomfortable, I can do my best to not be present.”
Did my silence give him the wrong impression? I feel mortified if I’m being honest about what I need to say, but there’s no way that I can let him think that I don’t want him. Somehow I went from a witch who was content living a lonely peaceful life to one who wants two boyfriends who share the same body.
“I want you present. I want both of you. Whatever that looks like.”
His gaze meets mine, and it’s soft and open. He squeezes my hand, his thumb rubbing gentle circles against my skin.
“This is all pretty fucked-up and complicated.”
I snort a laugh and relax a little, because he gets it. The Slayer has more of a black and white way of thinking, but Adam understands that this won’t be easy by any means.
“There’s still a lot that needs to be done,” I say, sobering up all this ridiculous lust I’m feeling right now.
“There is.” He gives me a soft smile.
These feelings are scaring the shit out of me and I wonder if I should even get my hopes up. Last night I saw how easily the Slayer was almost taken from me. Part of me wants to run away so I can’t get hurt, but I’m far past that. Now isn’t the time to run away scared, now’s the time to plan.
“We should get back home. We need to have a better plan for these other books,” I tell him.
The Slayer takes over, looking at me appreciatively. He took over the body in a damn near instant and I wonder why.
“Yes, and I need to have a chat with Scarlett.”
“Uh. Okay.”
We gather what little things we have with us, the Slayer wrapping me tight into his strong arms as he teleports us home.
Chapter 35
Scarlett
It’s not long after the Slayer and Iris get home that I realize something has happened between the two of them.
Perfect.
It’s like watching a romantic comedy happen right in front of my very own eyes.
Iris seems shy toward the Slayer, and well, he still seems as smitten as ever, and I need all the juicy details.
“Slayer, I think we should go on a hunt.”
Iris’ back goes ramrod straight as I say it and I give her a look.
“He wants to see how I work. Don’t you, Slayer?”
“Yes. I think this would be good. A hunt while you use your brilliant mind to plan our next move.”
Iris looks between the two of us with an arched brow.
“Fine. But only for an hour. If anything at all seems suspicious, you both teleport home right away,” she says.
The Slayer grins, bending down and placing a kiss on Iris’ cheek. She leans into the kiss instead of cringing, and I can’t help but to bounce around and wag my tail in happiness.
“Come, Slayer. Let me show you my hunting grounds.” I leap into his arms and we’re off, right to my forest where my secret den awaits.
The Slayer glances around, giving me an approving nod.
