I reached between us, finding her clit and rubbing it with my thumb. She cried out, her body going rigid, and then she was coming, her pussy clenching around my cock in rhythmic pulses that nearly undid me.

“Fuck, Fiona,” I groaned, my control slipping. “Fuck, baby, you’re so perfect.”

I carried her back to the couch, laying her down and following her, never breaking our connection. I braced myself above her, looking down at her flushed face, her kiss-swollen lips, her eyes dark and satisfied.

“I love watchin’ you come,” I said, starting to move again. “Love knowin’ I’m the one who makes you feel like that.”

She smiled up at me, her hands sliding up my chest. “Only you.”

Those words hit me hard. Only me. Only I got to see her like this, vulnerable and open and trusting. Only I got to make her feel this way. I would never be her first, but I would damn sure be her last.

I made love to her slowly, deeply, each thrust a promise. A vow. I’d protect her. I’d cherish her. I’d kill anyone who tried to hurt her.

My darkness wasn’t about owning her. It was about keeping her safe. About being the wall between her and everything that wanted to destroy her. I’d be her shield, her weapon, her sanctuary.

Whatever she needed, I’d be it.

“Jasper,” she whispered, her hands framing my face. “I need you.”

“You have me,” I promised. “All of me. Everythin’ I am.”

I could feel my orgasm approaching, inevitable now, and I didn’t fight it. Instead, I let it build, let the pleasure wash over me, and when I finally came, it was with her name on my lips and my eyes locked on hers.

I filled her with everything I had, marking her from the inside, and she held me through it, her legs wrapped around me, her hands in my hair.

When it was over, I collapsed beside her, pulling her against my chest, holding her close. Our hearts beat in sync, our breathing gradually slowing, and I pressed kisses to her hair, her forehead—anywhere I could reach.

“I’ve got you,” I murmured. “Always got you, baby. Nothin’s gonna touch you. I promise.”

She snuggled closer, her hand resting over my heart. “I know.”

Those two words settled something in my chest. I know. She trusted me. And I’d spend the rest of my life proving that trust wasn’t misplaced.

I’d protect her from Sylvia, from the club politics, from the SUV that may or may not have been following us. I’d protect her from the whole goddamn world if I had to.

Because she was mine. The other half of my soul. The woman I’d chosen and who’d chosen me back. The one person in this fucked-up world who made everything make sense.

I tightened my arms around her, feeling her relax completely against me, the tension finally leaving her body. This was what I’d wanted. To give her peace, even if just for a little while. To remind her that no matter what darkness waited outside these walls, inside them she was safe.

Inside my arms, she was safe.

Always.

CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT

Fiona

The pictures arrived just after breakfast.

I knew something had changed before Jasper said a word because he stopped halfway through rinsing his coffee cup and looked toward the burner phone laying on the counter. It had buzzed once, nothing more, but the sound seemed unusually loud inside the cabin. I stood near the little stove wiping crumbs from the counter and watched him dry one hand against his jeans before reaching for it.

His eyes moved over the screen, then lifted to mine, and my stomach tightened.

“King?” I asked.

Jasper nodded. “Yeah.”

I waited for him to tell me something had happened. Another vehicle. Someone asking questions. Sal finding a name. Anything that would pull us back into the uncertainty we had deliberately ignored for most of yesterday. Instead, Jasper held the phone loosely in one hand and asked, “You still want the pictures?”
