Dante didn’t stop. Instead, his gaze challenged me as he took me deeper. He hummed against me, the vibration amplifying the sensation tenfold. My free hand tangled in his dark hair, a silent demand conflicting between wanting to pull him away or push him down further.

The professor and student lingered, their conversation about the importance of primary sources a surreal soundtrack to my undoing. Dante’s throat constricted around me as he swallowed. His hands slid up to grip my ass to dictate the pace of my hips.

Watching Dante Gennaro on his knees with strangers standing mere feet away pushed me over the edge. My body seized, and I emptied myself straight down his throat. I bit my hand, fighting to stay silent through my intense climax.

Dante swallowed every drop. When he finally pulled back, a flash of undeniable satisfaction crossed his face as he wiped the corner of his mouth with his thumb.

The voices in the next row moved away, but lighter, quicker footsteps approached from the opposite direction. Dante rose to his feet and casually straightened his clothes. I fumbled to tuck myself back into my jeans, dazed and trembling from my release.

He shot me a wink before slipping past the shelf to intercept whoever was coming. “Did I scare you?” Dante asked around the corner. His tone shifted completely, sounding polite and innocent.

A female voice responded, high and breathy. “A little, but don’t worry about it. It happens a lot around here.”

“I was looking for somewhere quiet to get away from everything.”

“Well, you found the right place.” Her giggle grated on my nerves as I peered through the gap in the shelves. She was young, pretty, blonde, and smitten with Dante’s gorgeous face and sexual swagger.

Dante moved closer to her, invading her personal space as he’d invaded mine minutes before. His pitch dropped to that seductive purr that had weakened my resolve so many times. “It’s even better now that you’re here.”

A cold spike of adrenaline shot through me as he backed her toward the bookcase, perfectly mirroring how he’d pinned me. He braced his hand beside her head, angling his body toward hers in an unmistakable invitation. The same mouth that had been on me moments ago was now curved in a smile meant for her. Could she smell my cum on his breath?

I snatched the fallen book off the floor and shoved it back onto the shelf with enough force to rattle the heavy case. I grabbed my bag and stalked out into the main aisle.

The librarian jumped away from Dante, her cheeks flushed bright red. “Hi, can I help you find something?”

“No,” I replied in a snide tone.

“That’s my cue to leave,” he said, his eyes glittering with amusement as they met mine.

“Don’t bother.” I stormed out of the section. He’d shifted from devouring me to charming her, as if what we’d done meant nothing.

It was an ugly reminder that the thousands I’d paid at the brothel bought only Dante’s body, not his loyalty or exclusivity.

The realization sat heavy in my heart as I stormed away.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

DANTE

Shaw had made it halfway down the stairs before I grabbed his wrist. He yanked free with surprising strength, his green eyes burning.

“What the hell is your problem?” I demanded.

Instead of answering, he stormed down the rest of the way.

No one walked away from me, especially not after I’d been on my knees for them. I followed, taking the stairs two at a time, the taste of him still lingering on my tongue.

He reached the bottom of the stairwell before I caught him. My fingers dug into his bicep as I dragged him behind the staircase where the institutional lighting didn’t reach. I slammed him against the brick wall. His back hit with a satisfying thud.

“Explain yourself,” I said, crowding him deeper into the shadows.

“Let go of me!” His voice cracked.

“After you tell me what the fuck is going on.” I tightened my grip, pinning his wrists against the rough brick. The skin there was delicate, already reddening under my fingers.

“Let. Go,” he hissed.

“Not until you answer me.”
