“Vampires can see auras. And yours is human.”

“Auras? Wow. There’s so much I don’t know about vampires.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll tell you everything, just as soon as this mess is taken care of. Promise.”

They stopped in front of a door, and Naomi read the name indicating whose office this was: Samson Woodford’s. She took a deep breath, nervous about meeting the Scanguards boss in person.

Damian opened the door, and they entered the large office. Samson and Amaury stood near Samson’s desk and looked at them. Damian closed the door behind them.

“Hey, Samson, Dad.”

For a moment, there was silence in the room, and all Naomi could hear was the sound of everybody breathing. Then suddenly, Samson took a step toward her.

“Given that Damian is bringing you here, I’m assuming he’s told you what we are.”

Naomi swallowed hard. “Yes, and I’m sorry I’m on a floor where no humans are allowed.”

Samson chuckled unexpectedly. “Yeah, like anybody’s ever followed that rule. It’s good to meet you, Naomi. I’m Samson.”

“Nice to meet you too.”

Amaury walked past Samson and stretched out his hand in greeting. “I’m Amaury, Damian’s father.”

Naomi shook his hand. “Hi, I ran into your wife earlier tonight.”

“Yeah, she mentioned it, and you’re just as beautiful as she described you,” he replied.

Naomi felt herself blush, and she noticed Damian and Amaury exchange a look.

“Welcome to the family,” Amaury said, and released her hand.

Samson motioned to Damian. “I thought you were out following up on the leads from the partial license plate. That’s our top priority.”

“I know,” Damian replied. “And I was, but then Naomi found something that might lead us to Mick’s kidnapper.”

“Let us hear it,” Samson said and made an inviting gesture to the sitting area.

After Damian filled Samson and Amaury in on what Naomi had found out about Mick’s girlfriend and her family, he laid out a plan that he’d come up with.

“Since we don’t know where Wei Guo and his mother are keeping Mick, we have to make sure neither of them can warn the other. We’ll have to go in with two teams simultaneously.”

“You’re gonna scare the living daylights out of Mrs. Zhang,” Naomi said.

“Can’t be helped,” Damian said. “After all, she’s taken part in the deception. Now she has to pay the price.”

“He’s right,” Samson agreed. “Wei Guo can’t be allowed to contact anybody. He mustn’t see us coming.”

“Let’s do it,” Amaury said, nodding. “Is Wei Guo married?”

Naomi nodded. “Yes, and he has two kids. I think, they’re around ten or eleven.”

Damian exchanged a look with Amaury and Samson. “I don’t wanna go in and scare the children, or his wife. They’ve got nothing to do with this.”

“Then we’ll have to make sure he leaves the house, and we grab him outside,” Samson said.

“I think I know how,” Naomi offered. “But we’ll have to wait till about seven o’clock. He leaves his house early every day to go to the office.”

Damian glanced at his watch. “That’s in three hours. But there will be too many people in his office. It’s not a good place to snatch him.”
