His brain was short-circuiting. Completely, absolutely. Gone.
Myah planted her hands on her hips. "Coming?"
Jace blinked. "What?"
"The water."
Right. The water.
He glanced toward the lake. Then back at her. Then back at the lake. "The water looks freezing."
She rolled her eyes. "Are you telling me you brought me to a lake and now you're too much of a pussy to get in it?"
"It's mountain water!" Jace argued, because realistically he didn't love swimming, he just wanted a change of scenery where him and Myah would be alone.
"You'll survive."
"Debatable."
Without another word she turned and sprinted toward the shoreline. Then jumped straight in.
Jace stared. A second later she surfaced laughing and splashing water everywhere.
"Jace!"
"No."
"Jace!"
"Nope."
"Chicken!"
He scoffed. "I'm not a chicken."
"Sounds like something a chicken would say."
Jace walked toward the water cautiously, like a sane person. Meanwhile Myah looked completely unbothered. Which was unfair. Because she also looked ridiculously attractive. The sunlight danced across the surface of the water and her pink hair floated around her shoulders. That dark red bikini was rapidly becoming the reason he couldn't maintain a coherent train of thought.
She caught him staring and smirked before immediately splashing him. Cold water hit his chest and he shouted. It was freezing, this was a bad idea.
But before Jace could regret the matter further, Myah burst out laughing, and everything seemed to brighten up and get warmer.
"Oh, you're dead." He scrunched his eyebrows in feign anger.
She gasped. "It’s not that cold."
He stormed into the lake and the cold hit him instantly, causing goosebumps to raise on his arms. "MYAH."
She shrieked and tried to swim away but it was too late, Jace caught her around the waist and lifted her completely off the lake’s mucky ground.
"Myaaaaaah," Jace sing songed.
"No!"
"Yes.”
"Jace!" She shrieked before plugging her nose.
