Serenna (Sir-REN-nah) - an elven-blooded and former princess of Allaenar.

Shares an accepted bond with both Vesryn and Fenn. Accidentally created a three-way bond through their Starshards.

Essence abilities: rending, shielding, mending, and illumination. Fenn now has her innate portaling and force ability. She has begun the physical transformation into a wraith and has red-ringed eyes and elongated fingers. No known wraith abilities.

Has access to elemental (shaman) power, Skylash’s druid gift (lightning), and a Starshard where she can access and wield all of the elements.

Jassyn (JAS-sin) - elven-blooded and former mender and researcher at Centarya.

Previously forced into servitude for sixty years to increase the elven population and has over 165 known offspring

Essence abilities: mending, telepathy, shielding, illusion, and illumination.

Has access to elemental power and Cinderax’s druid gift (fire)

Lykor (Lie-CORE) - wraith leader whose consciousness split from Aesar’s (Vesryn’s twin) at the hands of King Galaeryn during experiments with Essence.

Essence abilities: shielding, rending, portaling, force, and mending. (Aesar’s innate talents were stripped away and not returned). Has Rimeclaw’s druid gift (water/frost).

Wraith abilities: warping and some measure of venom. Lost ability to cloak after stealing the mending talent from a captured ranger in The Chains of Fate.

Vesryn (VEZ-rin) — An arch elf with access to all eight talents and the exiled prince of Alari. Leads the rangers (dracovae riders). Bears Cinderax’s druid gift (fire) and is bonded to both Serenna and Fenn through his Starshard. His bond with Jassyn was broken.

Fenn (FEN) — A wraith and Kal’s son, bonded to Serenna and Vesryn through his Starshard. Retains the force and portaling abilities Serenna gave him, along with Cinderax’s druid gift (fire).

MINOR CHARACTERS

Kaedryn (KAY-drin) - The druid leader of Asharyn. Appears as a full wraith with silver hair (as do the other druids in Asharyn) but also has access to Cinderax’s druid gift of fire. Uses Essence abilities via a Starshard.

(Queen) Ayla (EYE-la) Vallende - The commander of Centarya, half niece to Jassyn, half sister to Serenna. Married to King Galaeryn.

Daeryn - Jassyn’s son and a leader of Essence and shaman wielders.

Bhreena - An Essence and earth wielder and Daeryn’s second in command

Lady Farine (Fa-REEN) Vallende - Elashor’s mother and one of Jassyn’s former contract holders.

Saundyl (SAWN-dil) Serenna’s full brother, a prince who stayed behind in Vaelyn instead of attending the academy at Centarya. They learned in The Shadows of Stars that his wife and infant son were taken by Elashor. Saundyl has both Essence and elemental power and is leading a fleet across the Cerulean Sea in search of more dragons.

Cinderax (SIN-der-axe) - An Emberhart dragon hatchling, The Warden of Fire who was freed at the end of The Shadows of Stars via the destruction of a Heart of Stars. Has black scales and maroon wings.

Taryn (TARE-in) - Fenn’s sister who joined forces with the elves. Has been granted some measure of Essence abilities and appears part-elf part-wraith. Last seen fleeing from Lykor’s fortress in The Shadows of Stars.

Koln (COALN) - a wraith warrior (wears an eye patch) and Fenn’s partner.

Kal (CAL) - Fenn’s father, Aesar’s partner, and Lykor’s captain who perished in a raid at the end of The Bargain of Dragons.

Elashor (e-LASH-or) Vallende (Val-LEND-e) - Serenna and Ayla’s father and Alari’s General, arch elf.

Velinya (Vel-LIN-ya) - Serenna’s elven-blooded friend from Vaelyn who is now partially a wraith and is in Asharyn with the druids.

Magister Thalaesyn (THAL-Aye-Sin) - Arch elf. Former mender and researcher at Centarya, Jassyn’s former mentor. Re-bonded to Maraelyn (Mara).

Queen Maraelyn (Ma-REL-in) - Goes by Mara. Vesryn and Aesar’s mother who is re-bonded to Magister Thalaesyn, half sister is Jassyn’s mother.

Flight Captain Zaeryn (Zare-IN) - Vesryn’s second in command of the rangers.

King Galaeryn (ga-LARE-rin) Falkyn (FALL-kin) - Elven king of Alari, Vesryn’s sire. Has been siphoning Essence from elves/half-elves to augment his power.
