Bowing my head, I try to slow my thundering pulse and thoughts, but I can’t. The heat builds in my core, giving my pussy a heartbeat of its own.

Then Lucan starts drumming his damn fingers against the glass. Each vibration dances on my slick entrance, sending tiny bolts of electricity through my clit.

No. We didn’t agree to this.

This is going too far.

It’s gone too far.

I can’t let him toy with me, even if it feels good. He’ll think he can do anything to me.

My breath comes out fast. “Stop!”

As soon as I shout the word, my desire to leave is overwhelming.

I can’t breathe or think.

I have to get out of here.

Rising from the table, I shove past him. I expect him to grab me, but he lets me pass.

Maybe he already got what he wanted and doesn’t care what I do now.

Without another look at Lucan, I snatch up my bag. All I want is to breathe fresh air and be free of his paralyzing energy.

I weave around the tables and push through the door.

Like Lucan, the bouncer gives me space. The man doesn’t seem remotely surprised when I run down the hallway to the front door.

Maybe I’m not the first distressed woman to flee from Altar.

Bursting through the front door, I gulp crisp air like I’ve been holding my breath since I entered the place.

Lucan’s a total pervert.

He’s vile and entitled and I never, ever want to see him again.

CHAPTER 10

Sadie

Altar’s door closes behind me, leaving me alone in the dark street. Only when the cold air touches my bare ass do I realize I left my underwear inside.

“Dammit,” I say with a moan.

I tug the skirt’s hem lower, to little effect.

Whatever. At least I’m free of Lucan and his creepy games. There’s no way I’m going back for my underwear now.

Walking briskly down the street, I put several blocks between Altar and me.

Lucan’s my stalker, which makes me feel violated, angry, and confused. It seemed to be one big joke to him.

He acted ignorant of how I lost the locket, and I pray he is. He has too much power already.

A lone car rolls past. Distant voices and music from the bars in the main street float on the chilly air.

Maybe Lucan didn’t kill Parker, I’ll give him that. But what about the other rumors? Hunting people for sport in strange cities and killing someone with his bare hands?
