Tate points toward the building.
“Harlan is a trained military officer.”
“So are the five Rangers standing behind us.”
Trigger raises his hand.
“Six if Doc were here.”
Nobody answers him.
He lowers it.
“Bad timing.”
Tate looks at Wolf.
“Take Trigger and cover the rear. Blaze and Ace, east side. Havoc, with me.”
“I’m going inside,” I say.
“No.”
“Harlan wants Grant’s evidence. I know where it was secured and what he’s looking for.”
“So does Lieutenant Ross.”
“She may be hurt.”
Tate’s jaw tightens.
I lower my voice.
“I need to do this.”
“No, you need to survive it.”
“I can do both.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Neither do you.”
“We finish this together.”
He closes his eyes.
Then he pulls me into a fast, hard hug.
When he releases me, he points at my vest.
“Your body camera is still recording?”
“Yes.”
“All tactical channels are being recorded at dispatch too.”
Relief moves through me.
