Parker stands outside the bars on crutches.
They glare at each other.
“I said I was sorry,” Hampton says.
“You shot me.”
“I was trying to stop Vance.”
“You shot me.”
“I panicked.”
“You shot me.”
Hampton looks at us.
“He’s becoming repetitive.”
Parker points one crutch at him.
“You’re lucky they won’t let me inside that cell.”
Hampton looks toward Sheriff Tate.
“Is that a threat against a federal prisoner?”
“You’re not a federal prisoner,” Tate says.
“Former federal agent.”
“Currently county prisoner.”
“I helped capture Harlan.”
“You also shot my deputy.”
“Are we never moving past that?”
Parker and Tate answer together.
“No.”
Mara smiles.
“What happens to Hampton?” I ask.
Sheriff Tate folds his arms.
“He’ll be charged for shooting Parker.”
Hampton groans.
“His cooperation will be documented,” Tate continues. “Federal prosecutors also want his testimony against Harlan.”
“So I could receive consideration.”
Parker looks at him.
