At least, that’s what I’m conspiring—that’s all I’m conspiring to do.
Mrs. Pike? She’s a different matter.
We reach the top of the stairs, and now I’m not so sure we’re on the same team as Kali turns to me with her eyes expressing all kinds of things.
Of course, I key in on the number one thing on my mind—on my hard dick’s mind—sex—but there’s a whole other world of emotions there, and those emotions stir up the confusing concoction stewing deep in my gut. Fuck.
“Kali…”
“I know. It’s too complicated to …,” she waves a hand, “pick up where we left off in bed seventeen years ago and expect there won’t be consequences.”
She’s right. I know she is, but I hate it.
“Why not?” Really? Am I going to rebel against reality like a teenager and damn the consequences? I put up my hands. “You know what—never mind. You’re right. There’s too much water under the bridge between us. Too much unresolved shit.”
“Right,” she says, her eyes flaring. Like she’s angry. “Like the fact that you never apologized for—”
“Are you fucking with me? I never—”
“Keep your voice down.” She opens her door and pulls me inside.
As I let her drag me into her room, my common sense and power of reason fades fast, and with the last remnants, I wonder if I was lying to Mrs. Pike about kissing Kali never happening again because it would be a damn shame if I didn’t.
