“Just a friend, that’s all,” he grumbled, arching his spine and tugging his jacket to fix the tautness. Sitting properly, he put the key in and started the ignition. “That’s fucking nice to hear.”

“So, telling her you were my secret Daddy would have been appropriate?”

In the blink of an eye, he lunged across the console, grabbing my chin. “You watch what you say to me, understand, kitten? I am already climbing the goddamn walls, rubbing my dick on anything that will make me cum because I’m so hard for you. You wanna talk like that? Fine, open your mouth and suck me, I’ll more than gladly be your Daddy again.”

My mouth ran dry, my breaths coming in tiny pants, my thighs bursting with heat. “Oh, shit.”

His brows lifted, he tipped his head. “Watch it, little girl.”

“I can’t…I can’t do this. Please!” I whimpered, tears burning my eyes.

Seeing the real estate agent traipsing down the red, herringbone walkway to the drive, he sat normally before she noticed. Thumbing his nose, he cleared his throat and shifted gears to reverse. He threw his hand over the back of my seat, sneering as he guided the vehicle to the road.

When he was all the way out and shifted to drive, he waited for the woman’s sedan to pull out and followed her down the road.

“Fine,” he finally barked. “I’m a grown fucking man and I’m not about to chase a chick, regardless of how much I want her. From here on out, I won’t look at you, say anything, or touch you again in any certain way other than platonically. You want me, you come get me. Otherwise, I am done.”

Propping my elbow on the window, I set my chin on my fist, staring out. Forcing myself not to care, I focused on the next few hours. I was about to dive headfirst into a battle that, regardless of the outcome, would change my life forever. I would either end up kicked to the curb, accepted, or slaughtered. At this point, any of them would be welcomed.

Chastity Monroe

“I bought a house,” I repeated flippantly, shrugging my shoulders out, waving the knife in my hand.

“Are you fucking crazy?” he bellowed, his voice rising to the ceiling.

My insides jolted with terror, but I somehow managed to maintain an air of aloofness. At least, I think I did. I nonchalantly stretched to the side to get my glass of wine so I could check my reflection in the microwave door. Yup, cool as the cucumbers I was cutting for our salad.

“Why?” Milo shouted, drawing his shoulders to his ears. “Why would you do something so fucking drastic, and without me?”

“You said you wanted to make me happy, I’ve always wanted a house with a yard and a pool.”

“It has a pool?”

“Well, no. Not yet. But we can put one in.”

“There’s a pool here and at my place.”

“You know how many people swim in those things? How many snot nosed bratty little kids probably piss in that thing?” Making a sickening noise, my face scrunched. “No thank you. I want my own. With a hot tub.”

“Chazzy!” he cried, throwing his head back with a drawn out groan. His hands on his sides, he started pacing back and forth between the island and sink. “I cannot fucking believe this.”

“It’s a cool house, man.”

“Do you really think you should be chiming in here?” he snapped at Wyatt, pointing a finger. “You are supposed to watch her.”

“I did. I watched her buy a house. I’m a bodyguard, not a babysitter.”

“And you didn’t think to call me? Give me a head’s up that she was about to do something huge like this?”

He toked his cigarette, sitting at one of the chairs at the bar. “She wanted it to be a surprise.”

“Surprise!” I sang, spinning around with a large grin.

Slapping the heels of his palms to the bar, he bent forward, shaking his head. “What the fuck did you do? Tell me what happened?”

“Well, it has six bedrooms and eleven baths, and is about twelve and a half thousand square feet.”

“Jesus fucking Christ!” he hissed, dropping to his elbows, his fingers rubbing his temples.
