He scooted his chair back, rose, and strutted to me, taking my hand and pulling me to my feet. Brushing his knuckles along my cheek, he muttered, “We’ll have a baby soon, too, I promise. There’s no need to be jealous of Melinda.”
My fake pout returning, I toyed with the lapel of his suit jacket, batting my lashes. “I know.”
“You stopped taking your birth control right before the wedding, right?”
“Yeah,” I lied, shifting my weight to one leg, still focusing on the jacket and not him.
“All right, then. It’s just a matter of time. When your body is ready to have a baby, we’ll have one. In the meantime.”
His voice grew husky, his fingers working at my blouse. My belly swirled, excitement rushing through my veins.
“No need we can’t take every advantage to try.”
“I guess that wouldn’t hurt,” I giggled, shrugging the silky material off my shoulders, the garment floating to the floor.
His face buried between my breasts, his hands working at my slacks. When they were unfastened and fell to my ankles, I kicked them aside and sat on the table, the dishes clanking when I nudged them.
He kissed me, his tongue stroking mine while he shed his jacket and worked at his own pants. I went through the motions, playing my part as a devoted, loving wife as he tugged my panties aside and fingered me to make me wet. When he thrust inside, shaking the table with his ferocious appetite, I cried out and gyrated right along with him.
However, for the first time since my affair began, I wasn’t able to click over and shut Wyatt out. My thoughts were with him and Amanda, while they brought that baby into the world. I was thinking about the four videos of Congressman Alberts, Jack, and Dave fucking their brains out, snorting cocaine off one another’s dicks and asses for hours one night not too long ago. I was thinking about the confrontation she would have with her husband when she returned home with those files.
I was thinking about when Wyatt and I could put our own plan into action and run away from all this and have our own life. Me, him, and our son.
“Oh, fuck, baby girl, yes, yes!” Milo howled, triggering me to fake an orgasm.
Panting, his forehead on my collarbone, his nails eased out of the flesh at my hips as he gradually stood up. When I made eye contact, my heart ripped in half and a sob shook my chest.
Concerned, his brows furrowed, and he cupped my cheeks. “What’s wrong?”
“I just love you so much.”
And I did. Running away was the right thing to do. It was the safest. I belonged with Wyatt. That didn’t make it any easier to leave Milo behind. I truly loved this man, even with all his faults and all the consequences that came with his lifestyle.
I was going to miss him so much when we were gone. A piece of me would never heal without his presence.
Still, my place was with Wyatt, not Milo. I couldn’t be here forever. I had to let my husband go sooner or later.
He chuckled and kissed my lips. “I love you, too, baby girl.” He eased out and bent over to snatch my pants. “Let’s go upstairs so I can show you how much I love you.”
Shimmying the slacks to my waist, I clung to his hand, gazing at him longingly as we strolled through the house to the elevator. This man was so amazing, regardless of his inability to be monogamous. He taught me to love, to embrace my body, and built confidence within me. He changed my life for the better, making me stronger.
But one day soon, my time with him would come to an end and I would be moving on with my future with the man I was meant to be with.
I would secretly take a piece of Milo with me and hang on to him forever.
Chapter 38
Chastity Pampinella
While I sat on the sofa in Wyatt’s apartment, my legs and my feet on the cushion beside me, my elbow was propped on the back. Bent over the bassinet, Milo was gazing down at the newborn with complete fascination.
I twirled a lock of my hair, smiling, my heart swelling. Ever since Wyatt came home with Richard three hours ago, Milo hadn’t taken his eyes off him once. He had even fed him and changed his diaper. It gave a hint of what kind of father he would be one day.
Which brought on a heaviness and sadness that was nearly crippling. It wouldn’t be my baby he was doting on like this, for soon I would be gone forever. He would be fawning over some other woman’s child eventually.
Raking my sight along him, pain twisted my heart. Would he love his next woman as much as he loved me? I was split in two on how I felt about that. The selfish part prayed he never loved anyone like me. Then again, the other piece hoped he found true happiness when I was gone.
Milo squatted, his elbows hooked on the rim of the bassinet. One hand buried in his hair, the other was hidden inside the temporary cradle, touching, petting, just fixated on the baby.
