Well.

Fuck.

Ronan knows—he has known for a while—what that tone does to me.

Maybe not exactly, but enough.

Enough that he will use it intentionally.

His eyes hold mine for another second, then they drift back down to his notes.

“Marching order?”

“What?” Cami asks.

“Who is going first?” he clarifies.

“Oh.”

Ronan looks at her, and she smiles.

“Cameron.” His voice takes on that tone again.

One word.

That’s all.

Her entire posture changes.

Holy shit.

I’ve seen her react to Ronan before. We’ve all seen it.

But something is… different now.

She goes still in a very attentive way.

Ronan looks to me, like he’s noticing me noticing her.

I swallow past the thickness in my throat.

“I’ll go first,” Griffin says.

Cami looks at him, her expression softening. “Of course you will.”

He shrugs. “Someone has to make sure it’s safe.”

“Protective Dad is hot,” I say.

Griffin just rolls his eyes.

Cami nods in solidarity. “It kind of is.”

“Thank you,” I tell her with a nod of my own.

“I wasn’t agreeing with you.”

“You were.”
