He hunkered down between her knees, leaning over her and kissing her and teasing her again, yet he didn’t enter her.

The feel of his hands on her bare bottom as he readied her made her squirm beneath him in delicious anticipation.

“Oh, David,” she said, raising her knees and arching her back. “I feel myself coming to life.”

“Good. That was my intention,” he answered with a chuckle.

“Enter me,” she commanded, and he didn’t object. Slowly, he slid his hardened length into her, filling her and making her feel so complete. Like silk over steel he melded with her, making her feel as if this had been what she’d been waiting for her entire life. He wasn’t forceful and neither did he think of himself.

“Is this all right, Martine?” he asked her. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You could never hurt me, David. This feels so right. Like we belong together and always have.”

“I agree,” he whispered, moving his hips and starting the thrusting motion of the act of making love.

“God’s eyes you feel so tight and hot,” he growled into her ear. The man was aroused and there was no stopping him now, but then again, she didn’t want to stop him. Martine felt happy, excited and a little bit naughty. She liked it and never wanted this to end.

They clung to each other, their bodies entwined, the warmth between them making her forget they were out in the cold in the loft of a barn. None of that mattered. This was the best feeling of her life. She and David were making love and no one, nothing was going to stop them from sharing their passion with each other.

“More, more, more,” she said as he thrust himself in and out, each time making that excitement inside her grow even stronger. Then, she felt as if she were atop a mountain and about to burst into the sky like a bird or a cloud. “Ooooooh,” she squealed in enjoyment, gripping his shoulders and lifting her hips on her own.

“Yes, yes, yeeeeees,” she heard him say in a low voice that sounded like a grunt in a way. Then, she found her release and was sure he had found his as well. The heated passion between them had finally been quenched. She’d made love with the only man who had ever taken her heart and now she didn’t ever want to let him go.

“That was wonderful, David,” she said when they were done.

“Wait until my next dream,” he said with a chuckle.

“I can’t wait.”

“Neither can I.” He pulled her to him, hugging her tightly and protectively in his strong arms.

“I think I am falling in love with you, David,” she told him before she lost the nerve.

He rolled to the side, lying next to her, still breathing heavy. “I know,” he answered. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have strong feelings for you as well.”

He pulled her back into his arms and she basked in the love between them. This felt so right, so good and so wonderful. Martine made up her mind at this moment that this was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, and no one else. No matter what her father or Uncle Corbett said, she didn’t care. She loved David and never wanted to lose him.

“Marry me, David,” she said, throwing caution to the wind.

After the wonderful intimate time they’d just spent together, she didn’t expect him to say anything but yes. But when he remained silent, and then his arms slowly released her, a sad feeling enveloped her because she felt as if she’d just somehow ruined this special moment between them. Instead of saying he wanted to marry her too, he got up and replaced his breeches and then held out his hand to help her to her feet.

“I hear voices outside,” he told her. All expression was gone from his face. There was no passion in his eyes anymore. “My cousin is most likely up and looking for me. It wouldn’t be good to be caught in this situation.”

“I suppose not,” she said, getting up and putting her clothes back into place. Right now, she really didn’t care who knew that they’d just made love in the hay. She wanted to shout it from the highest mountaintop because of the love swelling up inside her. But David didn’t. All of a sudden, he didn’t seem so sure about them anymore. “David?” she said, still wanting him to respond and say that he wanted to marry her too. “Did you hear what I said to you?”

“We’ll talk later, my lady.” He guided her to the ladder, grabbing the lantern along the way. “Right now, we need to get back to the tavern before anyone finds out just what we’ve done.
