“I sure do. What the heck, why not get cake AND ice cream?”

“Wild woman, throwing caution to the wind,” I teased.

She kept smiling and dug into the fries the waiter sat in front of us. I’d already ordered the appetizer for us. Dana was my best friend for ages; I knew what she liked. My stomach growled as I visually devoured the fries in front of me. They were covered in cheese, salsa, and pico de gallo. I picked up a fork hoping to eat the fries in a ladylike manner when Dana simply reached out and stuffed multiple fries in her mouth.

“God,” she said between bites, “Carbs are so good. So so good.”

I followed her lead and stuffed my face. It was nice to get out and see her. I’d missed my friend and I had so much to tell her.

“Dates,” I corrected, referring to her question. “Not one but two dates.”

She looked impressed. “That dating service is working out, huh?”

I nodded and then added, “Well, one date was with the agency and the other was Danny Schultz’s uncle.”

“Danny Schultz has an uncle?”

“A very sexy uncle.”

Her eyebrows shot up. “How did you meet him?”

“A friend of a friend.”

“Carter and I are your only friends, so that means you must have met him at Meredith’s school?”

“Hey, stop taking away the mystery. And I have other friends besides you and Carter.” At least I think I did. I couldn’t come up with anyone else besides Becca.

“So how was your date with Danny’s uncle? And did you get laid?” she asked, helping herself to another fry before taking a sip of the beer she had ordered. It was very clear that it was Carter’s night in with the kids.

Dana was a lightweight. I would be in charge of getting her home.

“I didn’t sleep with Danny’s uncle. His name is Ty by the way.”

“Ty? Ty what?”

I felt like a dirty dirty girl. I didn’t even know his last name.

“Schultz,” I said, but I could have been wrong. Dana didn’t need to know that.

“That’s a nerd’s name,” she said, making a face.

“Well, for a nerd, he sure can kiss… among other things.”

“So you did sleep with him?” She looked so happy about the prospect of me sleeping with Ty. It was as if she was going to high-five me at any moment.

“No, like I said before. The answer is still no.”

“Boring.”

“Really? You’ve only had like two sex partners your whole life.”

“I know and that makes me really really boring. But I’m not single anymore so that’s acceptable, you on the other hand, should be sowing your oats.”

“No one ‘sows their oats’ anymore.”

She took a big gulp of beer, slammed the bottle down and sighed. “Such a shame. So is he a boxer or a briefs man?”

“I told you, I didn’t—”
