I turned to him quickly and poked him in the chest. “You want me to apologize to you?”
“Well, you ignored me and left me dateless.”
“What are you talking about? What did you expect me to do? Run to you with open arms?”
“I expected you to at least acknowledge me and not spend your entire evening with someone else.”
“Acknowledge you?” I scoffed. “Before I saw you at the museum, you hadn’t even bothered to even acknowledge my existence since we slept together.”
He frowned. “That wasn’t some sort of calculated slight... I’ve just been busy.”
“Whatever,” I said walking away from him.
“I’m telling the truth,” he said trailing behind me again. I pointedly walked away from the spectators and the crowd. I didn’t want everyone to see me arguing with my reluctant lover. Or ex-lover. I didn’t know what Ty was to me.
He continued trying to convince me as he followed me to my car. Once I reached my door, I turned around and confronted him.
“You have some nerve,” I growled. “And to think I fell for your ‘I don’t take intimacy lightly’ line. I feel so stupid.”
“I didn’t lie to you. Especially about that. I don’t take intimacy lightly.”
“You slept with me and then disappeared.”
“I didn’t disappear—”
“Oh really?” I said opening my car door and getting in. I put the key in the ignition and looked back at him. I couldn’t read his eyes, but I wish I hadn’t looked into them. Their odd color pulled me in and I could feel my anger fading and my resolve softening.
“I had to take care of some business and then I knew I would see you at the museum opening—”
“What do you mean, you knew you would see me? How?”
“Well,” he said with a sheepish shrug, “I was supposed to be your date that night.”
I stared at him. But no. That couldn’t be. What was he talking about? He couldn’t have been my—
“I was your match that night.”
“What? What are you talking about?” I didn’t know whether to be mortified or relieved. I didn’t want him to know that I had been such a disaster at love that I had signed up for a dating agency. But how amazing would it be if he actually were my match?
“You’re with Infinity Connections?” Disbelief was still clear in my voice.
“Yep.”
“And that’s why you showed up at the museum?”
“Yep.”
“Sylvia didn’t say a word.”
He shrugged again, “I asked her not to.”
“Oh my god,” I said putting my hand against my forehead in exasperation. “I told Sylvia that you—well not you—but my date—who now I know was you—”
“You’re blubbering,” he said, leaning his gorgeous body against my car door.
I glared at him. “I told her that you hadn’t shown up.”
“Ohhh that explains why she gave me the cold shoulder and then yelled at me. That explains a lot now.”
