“Just the normal amount a doctor would see. Well, not compared to a renal specialist, for example.”

Neither of us talked for a minute. Maybe less. But it felt like the conversation had gone too far.

“Can you please get on with this? You can go down the hall to a private room to produce your sample. I’ve had a very long day, Kai.”

Kai reached down to his fly and started to retrieve his penis. I gasped, more than a little annoyed now.

“Not in here, Kai! What the hell? Go to the exam room, at least.” I pointed at the little room attached to my office. The one he had seen Jenny and I go into earlier. “There’s an exam table and a chair in there. You know – whatever makes you comfortable.”

He nodded.

“Got it, Dr. Bennet.” Then he headed to the room next door. “Aren’t you coming with me?”

“Why would I be coming?” I raised my eyebrows at his silly question.

“Well, don’t you need to help me with it?”

“No.” I screamed. “Why is this so hard for you to understand? You go to the exam room, jerk off into the cup, and then we can all go home, alright? Don’t make me bring the needle!”

“Fine. There’s no need to shout.”

Wait. Did I just shout at Kai? No, I couldn’t have.

“I’m sorry. It’s been a long day.”

“Got it.”

He stayed silent in the room for what felt like days on end. Guilt surged through my veins as I waited for him.

I don’t know when it started, but lately, it always feels like he’s playing some kind of games with me. Like a cat and mouse game. He wanted me one minute, then he didn’t want me the next.

There was no doubt that I wanted him. This game that we were playing really frustrated me somehow. My problem was, I didn’t know if he was serious about this or not. Was this a fling, or the real thing? I wanted to know either way.

My mind began to wander as Kai took his time in my exam room. There was a couple today who had had twelve rounds of failed fertility treatments in their life, two of them with me. They were one of the loveliest couples I had ever met, who adored children and wanted their own child. Life hadn’t blessed them with one. Their last treatment had given us high hopes, but a miscarriage eight weeks later brought nothing but heartache. The wife was in tears, right there in my office. They were on the brink of giving up trying. My professional advice was to try again, in six months, if they were still feeling up to it.

I studied their file in front of me. Had I missed anything at all? I prided myself on being one of the top fertility doctors in the country and nobody knew how hard I took it when I failed to help a patient. My stomach clenched as I thought about Mrs. Johnson, as if I could feel her sadness over not being able to have a child of her own.

“I need some help.” Kai called out, whining again. It was kind of cute though, to be honest. I rolled my eyes at myself, someday someone had to invent some kind of vaccination for hot guys, so people would be immune when hot guys batted their eye lashes.

“You done?” I stood outside of the room. There was no answer.

“Please. I need some help.”

“Are you decent?” I asked just in case. A loud clanking noise hit the air, something clearly had hit the floor. I panicked and rushed in without a reply.

No. He wasn’t decent. He’d taken his pants off, but at least his tight, very tight boxer shorts were on. I saw a tray on the floor and along with it some equipment that had been on the tray. “What did you do?”

“That? I was just using the tray as a stand for my phone. And you know, it wasn’t really helping.”

I checked my watch and breathed out another sigh.

“You have somewhere to be?” He sounded so flirty it made me roll my eyes.

“I’m sorry princess.” Not that word again, even if it came out innocent. “I was just trying to hurry things along by watching some videos on my phone. But uh, it wasn’t working.”

“You’re watching adult films in my clinic?” Not unusual, but I was shocked that he had to resort to that.

“Yeah, I was trying to. But all I can think about is you.”
