“There’s nae one here, only the wind,” he coaxed. This was enough temptation for Deva; a tingle rocketed from the base of her spine up to her cheeks, making her flush with heat.

Still half-laced, Niven’s fingers descended, dancing around the edges of Deva’s still opened bosom. Deva threw her head back in wild abandon.

She didn’t know what was happening to her, but she liked it. Correction, she loved it. Already she could feel that familiar ache, as her whole body longed for his touch. And she didn’t have to wait long to get it.

Niven’s fingers were upon her again, this time poking beneath the lace of her stays and teasing her bosoms until she feared she would lose control completely.

“Och,” she moaned as he stroked and caressed her now erect nipples. Pleasure rippled through her as her breath came faster and harder with his touch.

Blood pumped through her, delivering ecstasy to her every muscle. It felt so good when he touched her like that. A warmth took her, leaving her dazed and content.

She knew now he could do anything he wished with her. In fact, she hoped he did.

Niven’s smile grew, twirling a lock of her hair in his hands and stroking her bosom evenly with his other hand. “Yer beautiful, lassie,” he said, gazing at her intently.

There was such a serious look in his honeyed brown eyes that Deva almost stopped in her tracks. But in an instant, it was gone, replaced by a look of pure desire.

She pulled into his kiss, pushing him back down into the bed. At that moment, she didn’t give a damn about what was wrong and what was right. She just wanted him. Especially when he gave her that look.

Deva caressed him tenderly, bringing her hands down from his bared chest and into the bottom of his plaid. Somehow, he had managed to get at least half dressed, something that she wanted to instantly undo.

But as her hands went beneath his garments, she forgot all about that and simply focused on the tautness of his muscles.

Playfully, she brought her hands to his chest, teasing and caressing his nipples just as he did to her.

It gave her pleasure when he gave an involuntary gasp. “Dinnae stop,” he murmured and then glanced up at her. “Dinnae dare stop an’ dinnae get dressed, I want ye as yer are,” he said dreamily. And when she looked at him, Deva wanted nothing more than to obey.

When Niven looked at her like that, she was a goner, but still, the thought of what they were doing pulled her up sharp.

“We shouldnae,” she said again, but this time making an attempt at lacing the stays which were still half-opened. “Anyone could see…”

Niven stopped but looked up in surprise. “What do ye mean? Who’s going to be out here on such a night?”

The question hung in the air around them as a loud gust rocketed the cottage. A huge draft ran through the room, making Deva shiver.

“Well, ye might ask, what noise did ye think ye heard?” she asked, as she cast about into the room around them. Then, with horror, she saw the window opposite them was still unshuttered. Diving down onto the bed, she struggled with the laces in her stays until she was, at least, decent again.

“Och,” said Niven, dismissively, looking out the window he had forgotten about. “No-one’s out there anyway, I mean, look at it. It’s the wee hours. Who could possibly be out there now?”

Deva looked at him, pertinently. She didn’t want to say but could not get the thought of Rory’s face, suddenly, from her mind.

“So, what was it, then?” she asked, gradually coming around to where he was standing, gazing out by the other opened window. Even being near to the window seat made her shiver and shake, and yet this was where she had lain, naked at his feet only a few short hours ago.

Deva shivered again. But this time with shame, not just cold. A strange combination of guilt and desire flared up in her. The look of him there, seated in front of her, his brown hair shining in the amber light, set her heart racing.

The candlelight rendered his features soft and strokable, tempting her in with his passionate eyes.

“Nae one’s there, lassie,” he said in seductive tones. He came up beside her, still half-dressed on the bed.

Suddenly, Deva no longer cared about the storm outside, and not even for the prying eyes. Before she knew it, Niven was by her side, stroking her with his talented fingers.

Five seconds later, they were back in the bed, making love.

From outside the window, Fingal crouched down, pulling his head firmly below the sill line. His heart beating quickly, he checked around to make sure he was not heard.

He needn’t have worried. Without his horse to give him away, Fingal had climbed silently through the ice and snow in the glen. It was not easy, but he had made it.
