Chapter Fifteen
Sara glanced at Jack across the conference table, barely able to contain herself. Little did he know, she had something very naughty planned for her bad boy tonight. Their gazes tangled and his cheeks went pink. As though he could read her mind.
Or maybe it was her toe making its way up his pant leg.
She’d been aggravated to round the corner into the boardroom to find Jenny sitting in Sara’s usual seat by Jack’s side. She’d pouted for a minute, but only a minute, and then realized she could just as easily torment him from the other side of the table.
This position was maybe even better. Because he had to look at her.
She drew in a deep breath. He tracked the rise of her breasts, fixated on the plunging neckline, lingered on the cleft of cleavage revealed by the undone buttons. One too many undone.
God, she loved distracting him in these boring meetings. It was—
“Sara?”
She blinked. Oh. Were there other people in the room?
There were. They all peered at her expectantly.
“Um, yes, Tristan?”
Her boss, the CEO of the company that employed her, drummed his fingers on the table. “Would you like to join us?”
“Huh?”
“I asked if you could give us an update on the proposal for Harper.”
Harper? Who the hell was—oh. Yeah. The monstrous project she’d been working on for months. “Sure.” She quickly toed her shoe back on and came around to the front of the table to launch into her spiel.
It was annoying to have to focus on work. Because all she really wanted to think about was Jack. The revelations and revelry of the past couple days. And tonight.
Somehow she made it through her presentation. Somehow everyone understood the words coming out of her mouth. They all nodded and asked questions and apparently her answers were cogent enough to escape ridicule.
All the while, Sara was plotting how to corner Jack in his office and spring her surprise on him.
So it was extremely annoying when, after the meeting adjourned, Tristan asked her to remain behind.
Her belly dropped.
Sara watched through a dismal haze as everyone else left the room—Jack and Jenny chattering and laughing and God, was that her hand on his arm?—while she remained in her seat like a miscreant called to the principal’s office.
What was worse, Adam stayed too.
Adam and Tristan co-managed Trillo-Maris. Whenever someone was called into a meeting with them both it was never good.
Oh. And then it went from worse to worser.
Much worser.
Adam shut the door.
Sara gulped.
Had they found out about her and Jack?
Tristan had this bug up his butt about employees fraternizing—even though he had fraternized the hell out of Shannon. Adam had done the same with Kat. But still. They were the owners of the company. She was only the marketing director.
A ball settled in her gut.
