Clover and Diva headed back to the nursery to get lunch served to the kids. Irie had just come back from vacation, and Clover had been so busy with her personal life that she was barely at the daycare.
“Hey, girl. How’s it going?” Clover asked Irie when she walked into her daycare.
“All good. A few people put payments in the drop box so you might wanna check it,” Irie replied. As much as she loved working for her friend, she refused to deal with anything regarding money. Clover tried to give her a key to the drop box but she didn’t want it. She wasn’t a thief at all but, in her opinion, Clover should have been the only one to deal with the financial side of her business.
“Okay. Once the kids eat and get put down for their naps, you can push out. I really appreciate you holding it down for me, friend. I feel like I’ve barely been here for the past few days.
“That’s what I get paid for, honey. But I’ll definitely take you up on your offer. I need to hit up the nail salon,” Irie replied.
Once the kids ate and laid down for their naps, Irie left, leaving Clover and Diva there with the other staff members. She talked to Dash for a while until the parents started showing up to get their kids. Clover’s daycare closed at six every evening but she was happy that all of the kids had been picked up by five. She let the rest of the staff go home while she and Diva cleaned and sanitized everything.
It was about twenty minutes to six when both women decided to call it quits. Diva double checked that the back and side doors were locked before they both grabbed their purses, preparing to exit. When the front door was forcefully pulled open, Clover wasn’t surprised to see Trudy standing there looking pissed. She knew right then that the judge had made good on her word to have Trent served as soon as possible.
“Can I help you?” Clover asked with a smirk, as Diva stood behind her like a bodyguard.
“Wow, so you really went through with it, huh?” Trudy posed it as more of a statement than a question.
“Went through with what?” Clover was playing dumb.
“Is this really how you wanna play this, Clover?”
“Play? I wasn’t aware that it was a game. I came to you as respectful as I could, but you wanted to flex your status and power, so here we are.”
“You never had nor have any proof of stalking or intimidation at the hands of Trenton. That bullshit piece of paper that was served will be null and void by morning.”
She was pissed beyond words when her son was served with a restraining order a few hours ago. It was even worse because her husband was right there to witness it. His point was constantly being proven about the mental state that their son was in. Melvin seemed to be distancing himself from her and their son, but that wasn’t the first time. He’d done the same thing when Trent got into trouble with his previous girlfriend.
Trudy was even more upset when she saw the name of the judge who signed off on it. She hated everything about Trudy, and the feelings were mutual. She did that out of spite, but Trudy couldn’t wait to pay her a visit in the morning. She wanted to see what proof she had before she went to her superior to file a formal complaint against her. Personal feelings needed to stay outside of the workplace and she was gonna find that out the hard way.
“Handle your business, boo, and best believe I’m gonna handle mine,” Clover replied, interrupting her thoughts.
“I guess it’s time to show you just how well connected I am. See you in court soon.” Trudy smiled deviously as she turned to walk away. Clover’s next words stopped her right in her tracks and made her heart take a nose dive in her chest.
“See you soon and tell Carmelo that Clover said hi.” Clover snickered while Diva cackled loudly.
“Maybe you should tell him yourself since I have no idea who that is.” Trudy’s heart was racing and her palms started to sweat. She’d been trying unsuccessfully to reach Carmelo for the past week. He never answered her calls or texts and he never returned any of them. Trudy had been stressed out and she needed some good weed and even better dick. Carmelo never failed to deliver them both. She didn’t know how Clover knew him but she was hoping to find out. She tried to be super careful when she saw him but she obviously wasn’t careful enough.
“You a muthafucking lie, ole nasty mouth, bitch!” Diva yelled angrily.
“Excuse me?” Trudy was offended by her choice of words.
“I must admit that you got some skills for an old hoe. Shit, I might need to take a few pointers from you. Those gag reflexes are impressive,” Clover laughed as she played the video and turned it around to show Trudy.
“I hope she don’t kiss her husband with that same mouth.” Diva frowned in disgust.
Trudy was mortified when she saw herself on video. She couldn’t believe that Carmelo had recorded their intimate time together. More than that, she couldn’t believe how much she had degraded herself just to be with him.
Melvin had been her husband for over thirty years, and she had never done half as much with him. He was so conservative that she kept that side of herself hidden. Now, she knew why Carmelo hadn’t been bothered with her. She felt like a fool and she was sure that she looked like one. He didn’t even care enough about her to keep their tryst a secret.
“Look, I’m not trying to have any bad blood between us but—” Trudy was trying to humble herself and hopefully finesse her way out of the situation. She was quickly interrupted and called out on her bullshit.
“Nah, bitch, don’t try to get professional now. My daughter came to you on some grown woman shit and you wanted to take it there. And you better hope they don’t drug test your weed head ass.” Diva wasn’t in the mood for small talk. If she had her way, Trudy would have been laid out the minute she felt bold enough to walk through the door.
“How about you keep your retarded ass medicated son in line? Then, I might reconsider inviting your husband out to dinner to discuss a few things over lobster and lemon drops. Or I can give you and your entire family something to do next weekend. I already have the paperwork secured to make sure I never spend a night in jail. How does that sound to you, Mrs. Well Connected?” Clover replied as she once again tapped her freshly manicured hand on her purse, letting Trudy know what was up.
“That sounds fine to me. You have my word that Trent won’t be a problem for you anymore.” Trudy hated that she basically had to bow down to a child who she felt was beneath her but she didn’t have many options.
“You keep your end of the bargain and I’ll keep mine… maybe,” Clover laughed and taunted.
