Caprice came from a huge family on both sides and they all seemed to act just alike. Most of them still lived in the same hood that they grew up in. The ones who didn’t live there anymore hung out in the area, and Caprice was one of them. They were always hating on somebody and fighting too. She was always talking shit because she knew that her family had her back. Most of them, including Caprice, couldn’t fight but she talked a good game. A lot of people were afraid of their family but that was only because there were so many of them.
Caprice’s biggest accomplishment was working for the state but she didn’t even have that anymore. Depending on Monty to take care of her was the wrong move because he was unstable at times and they never knew what his next move would be. He had been home for close to a year, and Caprice’s time with him seemed to be coming to an end. Maybe she was in denial but even Amina could see that he wasn’t really into her like that.
“Girl please, they go all out for anything that has to do with Clover. Have a baby for Fonzo and see how yours get treated.” Caprice had successfully pulled Amina away from her thoughts with yet another complaint.
“I’m an only child, so my baby will be spoiled either way.” Amina shrugged while discreetly dismissing the conversation.
Amina wasn’t always an only child but her older brother had been killed in a carjacking that she unfortunately witnessed via facetime. They were talking like they always did when he stopped at a red light. Two men decided that his Ranger Rover was worth more than his life and left him dying in the street as they drove off with his truck. To her, life was too short to spend it being miserable. She’d seen multiple therapists that helped her get over her grief. She used to suffer with horrible panic attacks, but that was controlled for the most part. Fonzo was a Godsend and he knew how to handle things when one occasionally crept up on her.
Caprice was always complaining but you rarely saw her without Monty, and everybody knew why. One of Clover’s best friends, Ivanece, or Iva, was Monty’s ex-girlfriend. Iva wasn’t just his ex; she was his first love. She and Monty had been together for years until he went to jail. They had just moved into their apartment a few months before he went, and Iva still lived there. Caprice was one of the guards that he messed with while locked up and she was who snuck in all of his contraband for him.
Iva was prepared to ride with him until the wheels fell off, but that only lasted for about six months before she got wind of what was going on. She knew that they were being messy, but two of the female guards just so happened to be discussing it when she was standing in line to be checked in to see Monty. She was heartbroken and angry but she decided to stay for her visit. As soon as Monty came out to the visitation room, Iva beat his ass and was being led out in cuffs a short time later.
Iva’s sister, Irie, and Clover had to drive over an hour away from New Orleans to bail her out. Iva was banned from visiting ever again but that was fine with her. She was done with Monty and she had no reason to return.
Unlike twenty-seven year old Irie, who was married with three kids, twenty-five year old Ivanece was single and child free. She really thought that Monty was the one, but he broke her heart. She didn’t want to hear his excuses about what Caprice was doing for him. She loved him enough to risk her freedom by doing the same thing, but he never even asked. He claimed that he loved her too much to see anything happen to her but he obviously didn’t love her enough.
Although they hadn’t been together in years, it really hurt when Monty came home and moved in with the bitch. Caprice lost her job four months before he was released as a result of being caught sneaking his contraband in the prison, and he blamed himself for everything that happened. Monty had Hank and his brothers helping Caprice out with her bills until he got out, but that was only because he felt bad about the role that he played in it all. He made sure that Iva’s bills were paid too, but it wasn’t the same.
In his mind, they were gonna get back together eventually. He had no intentions on being with Caprice but that ended up happening anyway. His emotions were all over the place but he didn’t know how to handle it all. He went from being pissed with Iva for leaving him the way she did when he was locked up to begging her to take him back. By then, she had moved on and was dating other people. He ended up moving in with Caprice until her lease was up. They moved into a nice apartment soon after, but everything that Monty did was out of guilt and not love. He was still in love with Iva but, to other people, they hated each other.
Although Caprice tried to hide it, she didn’t really like Clover because of her tight-knit friendship with Iva. They were always together and it had been that way since they were kids. She tried to get Amina on board with her but she loved Clover. Unlike Caprice, she took time and talked to Clover personally more than once.
Although she couldn’t fully comprehend all that she’d gone through over the years, her heart still went out to the chocolate beauty who was deemed an orphan at only ten years old. What seemed like favoritism to Caprice was actually Hank and Diva being what they were considered to be, Clover’s parents. They treated her the same way they treated their sons and so did the rest of the family. They were all that she had in New Orleans and they had raised her longer than her biological parents did.
It was really fucked up because Clover really liked Caprice, despite her close friendship with Iva. She considered Caprice a friend and that’s exactly what she pretended to be. Amina didn’t do mess, so she would never repeat some of the things that she knew or heard. Diva and her mother already weren’t too fond of Caprice, and they would have made sure she stayed away if she wanted to or not. Sadly, Monty didn’t care either way.
Amina would have hated for things to escalate because Caprice wasn’t gonna like the outcome. As big as her family was, they were no match for the drama that Dash and his brothers would bring. He loved Clover more than his next breath and he would most definitely go to war behind her. She’d seen it happen once before when they got divorced and Clover got another man. Unfortunately, if she had to choose a side, Amina was going with Clover and away from Caprice and her negative energy.
“Wait, Lucky, shit, I’m ‘bout to cum.”
Dash had his bottom lip pinched in between his teeth as he stroked Clover from behind. He watched her fat ass bounce with every push. Lucky was the nickname that he gave her when they were kids. It was also the way he felt every time he looked into her beautiful face. From the honey-blonde colored sister locs in her head to the white polish that coated her pretty toes, Dash loved every inch of her. She looked like a younger version of Janelle Monae with a body that looked handcrafted by the Most High.
Clover was his life, even though he didn’t always act like it. They were both young, so making mistakes came with growth. Dash was known to overreact when it came to her and he didn’t always know how to control it. He was jealous and overbearing sometimes, but nobody could get a reaction out of him quite like Clover did. He couldn’t remember a time in his life that he didn’t love her and that was even before his family found out. She was his four leaf clover then, now and forever.
“Come on, Boobie. You said that twenty minutes ago. You know Diva is probably on her way already and everybody else won’t be too far behind her.”
Boobie was the nickname that Clover gave him a few weeks after she moved in with them, and she was the only one who addressed him that way. It started out being their code language when they didn’t want Diva and Hank to figure out their secret. After a while, the nicknames just stuck. Everybody thought it was cute that they had their own personal pet names for each other. Dash looked like a hood version of Devin Franklin but he was far from being holy. He was smart as hell but, just like Hank, who he and his brothers looked identical to, he sometimes had a horrible temper.
“I know, baby but I’m for real this time.” Dash threw his head back in ecstasy.
Clover was happy for her dark skin because she was sure that he would have left a bruise on her hips from gripping them so hard.
“I got you, boo.”
Clover used her petite hand and reached in between them. Dash almost bucked out of the bed when she started massaging his balls. She knew exactly what to do to send him over the edge, and he was filling her up with his seeds a short time later. Thankfully, she took her birth control faithfully, so she wasn’t worried.
“Damn, Lucky.” Dash dropped down into the bed, almost collapsing on top of her. He picked Clover up instead and laid sideways, pulling her closer to him. She was only four inches over her five-foot frame, so she looked tiny in his swollen arms.
Dash, just like Hank and his brothers, had a tall, muscular build. He was six feet even and just an inch or two shorter than Monty and Fonzo. The brothers worked out religiously and so did Clover since that was something that Hank had instilled in them at an early age. As a result, she had a body that a few people swore she paid for. Although her mother was considered slim, Clover’s shape and looks came from her father’s side of the family. Even Shantel’s sisters were considered to be skinny. No matter what they did or ate, they could never gain weight. Clover loved her curves but she sometimes wished she would have had more of her mother’s genes. She gained weight if she even looked at carbs. She had to make the gym a part of her lifestyle or she would be short, fat and shapely, just like her grandma Tilly.
“Don’t get comfortable, Boobie. We got too much to do today.”
“I already know and my baby ain’t having it. Damn man, I can’t believe that she’s six already.” Dash smiled as he got up from the bed and started pulling the sheets off.
“I know and going to the first grade. Time flies.”
“It’s about time for us to give her a brother or sister.” Dash looked at Clover and winked.
