“I guess. I just hoped to have some clue what the plan is.” I tug at my shirt a little. It’s unnerving that this guy has this much control over my life. I thought the horsemen were bad, but at least they told me exactly what they wanted and were willing to do anything to get it. A little rush goes through me.

I roll my head on the headrest and meet Jack’s gaze. “What can I expect tonight?”

Jack chuckles and leans in until his lips brush mine. “I can’t tell you, sweetheart.”

When I open my mouth to ask why, he captures my lips. Flames leap to life.

He draws away and says, “I don’t know. It’s Eli’s show tonight. We’re just the participants.”

A shiver races through me as I search Jack’s blue eyes. My pulse is already racing, and my panties are wet. I’m ready for whatever they want to give me and to enjoy the oblivion that comes with it. To not have to think about anything but their needs and mine. Yes, please.

“We should get inside.” Jack opens his door but catches the back of my neck and presses his lips to mine for another second.

When he releases me, I smile and drag in a breath. I’m definitely ready to not think for a while. And that’s what Eli promises.

Jack comes around the car and opens my door, helping me out. Our bodies brush, and I’m so ready to get tonight started.

There are lights on in the kitchen as we enter. A male clears his throat, and I startle, ducking behind Jack and clenching his hand harder.

“You freaked out Harper, Dad.” Jack pulls me to his side. “She’s not used to having a father around.”

Robert nods and gives me an apologetic look. “I didn’t mean to frighten you, but I want to talk to both of you before you go to your room.”

We both take off our shoes beside the door.

When he nods to the opposite side of the table, Jack leads me over and holds out a chair for me. I sink into it, feeling like we’re going to get a lecture that’s going to be really uncomfortable from an adult I basically just met.

Robert clasps his hands in front of him on the table. He meets Jack’s gaze and then mine. His face is blank and actually a little frightening. When I swallow down the fear, Jack takes my hand under the table, squeezes it, and places our joined hands on his thigh.

“What’s up, Dad?” Smiling, Jack relaxes back in the chair like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

Robert sighs. “Your mothers seem to think it’s best that you two share a room.”

Yeah, this isn’t going to be a comfortable talk. I squirm in my seat and look down at the table.

“I’m not naive enough to believe that you won’t share a bed or have sex.”

My cheeks are on fire. Fuck. It’s bad enough from my mom, but Jack’s dad is a stranger.

“But I want you to take into consideration how you behave around Lucy.” Robert releases a breath. “She’s young and impressionable.”

“We’re not going to do anything in front of Lucy, Dad. Fuck, we’re not stupid.” Jack straightens. “Lucy will never find us in the middle of anything. I can promise you that. The worst she might see is a kiss, but I’ll keep it PG.”

My insides are shriveling with every word.

“If she comes to your room in the middle of the night—”

“She’ll find us tucked in bed with our jammies on.” Jack shakes his head. “Anything else? Because you’re making Harper really uncomfortable right now.”

Fuck. I lift my gaze, and Robert gives me a curious glance. He’s one of the horsemen. This man used to run with William Foster. He would have known my mom and dad in school. He told my dad about the meeting where my dad disappeared.

Robert shakes his head. “Just be careful.”

“Lucy knows to knock before entering my room. And I’ve always protected her from too adult situations.” Jack glances at me and then looks back at his father. “This whole situation is fucked up right now. Harper isn’t safe on her own, and this isn’t something we can take to the police because nothing major has happened.”

Robert’s eyes search mine again.

“I’m glad Mom and Jennifer made the decision to put her in my room. Otherwise, I’d be worried all night about her.”
