His eyes expanded soon as I said that. “Why didn’t you just lead with that. I’ll get you out of here.”

He grabbed a set of keys and uncuffed me. I rubbed my wrist where the cuff once was. There was a line wrapped around my wrist from all the pulling and yanking.

“I’m gon’ need a ride,” I made known.

“To where?”

“A client’s house. She took my car when she left. I’ll tell you the address, and it’s important that you get me there as fast as possible.”

Without uttering another word, I rounded his truck and got into the passenger seat. He hopped in alongside me and stared at me before pressing the sirens and pulling off.

It didn’t take us long to make it to Luxe’s house. Her car was parked by the front door. I had a feeling that she didn’t even want to go anywhere; she only just wanted to try and get rid of me, but I didn’t get pushed away that easily.

“Thanks,” I said and hopped down out the truck.

Using the key that Savion had given me, I entered the house and shut the door behind me. Music could be heard coming from down the hallway, so I followed it until I made it to the doorway, where I found Luxe swaying her hips in the kitchen between the island and the stove. The mufucka was in here acting like she didn’t just abandon me.

By now, she was dressed down in an oversized graphic T-shirt. Her curly hair was pulled up in a bun on top of her head. She didn’t have any makeup on. I noticed that she didn’t wear it like that anyway. Luxe was such a natural beauty.

“Are you fucking serious?” I asked, and she jumped.

With her hand resting against her heart, she asked, “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”

“I’ma give yo’ ass more than a fucking heart attack if you leave me like that again.”

Luxe frowned. “I don’t know why you take your job so seriously. I was just having a bit of fun.”

“You need to be taking your life seriously.”

“What makes you think I don’t?”

Luxe’s right brow lifted to her hairline. She reached underneath the counter, and a gun tapped against the marble. She then stepped over to the pantry and pulled the door open. Hanging on the back of the door was a shotgun.

“I very much take my life seriously, especially with the type of family that I have,” she said and shut the door.

It was nice to see that she was prepared for whatever.

“Now, since it seems like you’re not going anywhere, it looks like you’ll be taking the bedroom next to mine. Stop sleeping out in the hallway like a creep. Mkay?”

Luxe didn’t even wait for me to respond. She just went back over to the stove and continued to cook.

“The food will be ready in twenty. Get out my kitchen and let me cook.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

I tossed my hands up into the air and backed out the kitchen.

Two weeks later

I had given Savion all the information that I had on the painting. It’d been two weeks, and I was ready to go back to my normal life. Every time I looked up, Ghost was there. He was quiet and kept to himself, so it was kind of like he was invisible. That probably was the best part. He wasn’t in the way and didn’t stop me from handling business.

I descended the stairs, finding Ghost standing by the front door like he was every morning.

“Luxe.” He greeted me.

“He still don’t have an update?” I asked as I opened my Birkin that was on the table and switched my items into my Louis Vuitton tote.

“He sent some men over to Argentina. He’s waiting to hear something.”
