Kavek getting out of the lead car.
Six steps.
That's as far as he got.
The net. The darts. The zip tie around my wrists. Waking up on a stone floor with my side bandaged and a note folded on top of a sweater.
I tell them about Frances. Elise. Benny. Tomas.
I tell them I was locked in. That I wasn't allowed to leave. That Frances told me why they'd brought me there and showed me what they'd kept.
I tell them Elise and Benny got me out.
Nobody interrupts.
It takes forty minutes.
"Thank you," the woman from the Council says. "Now. The location."
"No."
Her pen stops.
"Miss Miller—"
"I've given you everything I saw. I'm not giving you a road."
"You are aware that you're describing an abduction."
"I'm the one it happened to. Yes."
"Then I don't understand what you think you're protecting."
"People who had nothing to do with it."
"And people who did."
"Yes."
She waits.
"Elise helped me leave," I say. "So did Benny. I want that in the record."
"It is."
"Frances has a man there who was involved in taking me. He was alive and under guard when I left."
"Is he being questioned?"
"I assume so."
"That's going to be a problem."
"I know."
"And you still won't give me the location."
"No."
