“Did this get made up for you, or did you tell them how to make your burger?”

“I told them, please, vendors always skimp on the cheese, the onions and bacon, even though they charge you a stupid amount for it. I was not going to be turned away.”

She found her tears dried up around Venom, and it was nice distraction. “Thank you,” she said.

“Don’t mention it.” He gave her a nudge with his shoulder.

She took a bite out of the burger and moaned. “Okay, you’re going to have to tell me how exactly you get people to do this for you. That is amazing,” she said.

“It’s all in the look. People are afraid of me.”

“For good reason, Venom. You’re a scary guy.”

“I know and I’m proud of it, but it helps.”

“Maybe you could help me create a look?” she asked.

“Some looks are created out of experience. Hurt a couple of people, it might help.”

She wasn’t even afraid of him. Did that make her an idiot? Venom had killed people, and he’d not been ashamed to hide it. She knew he had a rough past. She knew the club was not all sunshine and rainbows. Bad shit happened. Bolt told her bad shit went down, and that was why he was covered in bruises and also had a few bullet holes.

She was loyal. The club had been her family, and there was no way she would ever go to the cops. Although her father was military, it could be hard at times, but her father had always said the military was his family, and he would never turn his back. Evil Dwellers MC was her family as well.

“I think it was brave what you did,” she said, turning to look at Venom. “They were hurting animals.”

“And they died for it,” Venom said. “Trust me, that scum doesn’t even deserve a gravestone. Are you feeling all right now?”

She glanced at him, then turned away. It was on the tip of her tongue to lie, but she didn’t want to. “No, I’m not okay.”

The tears had dried up. “I’ve been lied to and ... I hate him, and I love him, and I hate him so damn much. He’s a father of three with another woman, and he won’t give me a divorce. What kind of person does that?” she asked.

“A man that still loves you?” he asked.

“No, a man that loves a woman doesn’t look at another. He doesn’t live two lives. Do you know what sucks? Everyone else knew, didn’t they?” she asked, looking at him.

He held his hands up. “I can honestly say I didn’t have a fucking clue. I was gone before that kid and the other two were born. The whole club drama is all news to me.”

That made her feel a little relief. There was at least someone who hadn’t lied to her.

She smiled at him. “Venom, I know we don’t know each other that well, but can I ask something of you?”

“Sure.”

“Please don’t lie to me.”

“I won’t.”

She looked at him, and even though he could be lying right now, she got the feeling he wasn’t.

Chapter Four

Bolt looked down at the roses he’d just purchased, and he checked to make sure none of them were wilted. It had been a long ass week, and Maverick had wanted him to go with Venom to check out a few deals.

He didn’t really know Venom. The guy had gone away during his prospecting years and was only around for two of them. During the ride there, and the pit stops for gas and food, there was absolutely no conversation. They got their job done, headed back, and still nothing. Not a single word was spoken. When he asked around from the guys, he got a mixed response. To some, Venom talked. To others, he was the silent type.

It was now Friday, and rather than sit around the club, he was attempting to take the lead and find a way of winning back his woman. He was tired of setting fire to divorce documents.

His mother had also told him that Gus and Willow would be out of the house on Friday night, so that was the perfect opportunity to talk with Morwenna. He’d hoped to speak to her at the fair, but instead, he dealt with Kyle, who was having a hissy fit because he wanted his father to go on the roller-coaster ride. First, he had to remind the kid that whenever they were in public, his name was Bolt. Then, he took his kid on the roller-coaster ride, after which Kyle threw up everywhere. He took Star and the kids back to their home.
