“No, I want to go home.”

They didn’t speak on the ride home, and she felt miserable. It was Halloween, one of her favorite nights of the year, and once again Bolt, being freaking Bolt, had ruined it for her.

They arrived home, and Venom turned off the ignition, and neither of them spoke as she looked at her house. She knew there were too many decorations. Bolt had told her she always overdid everything. He always complained, never helped her out.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“I don’t know.” She took a deep breath. “For the longest time, I thought I loved him. He was my best friend and my first and only boyfriend. I loved him for a long time. Right now, though, I wonder if it was ... I don’t know, I’m wondering if I freaking trained myself to love him, because right now, I absolutely hate him. I hate him so much.” She opened the truck door and climbed out.

Morwenna was at the door, when Venom suddenly pulled her into his arms. At first, she wanted to fight it, to fight his warmth, but that was her anger at Bolt. She threw her arms around Venom and held onto him, not wanting to let go but to keep holding him.

She was not going to cry, because she was going to be strong. This was not pain from love lost. She wrapped her arms around him and didn’t want to let go. Pressing her face against his chest, she smelled him. He smelled so good.

“It’s going to be all right.” He stroked her hair, and in a strange way, she felt a great deal of comfort from his touch.

Finally, the cold got a little too much for her to handle, and she pulled away letting out a shudder. “It’s cold, come on, let’s get inside.”

Venom took another chocolate out of the large tub they were eating from, unwrapped it, and slid it right into his mouth.

“You’re going to make yourself sick,” Morwenna said.

“It’s Halloween, isn’t there some law that stops you from being sick from too much candy consumption?”

She laughed. “I don’t believe it works like that. Although, it would be pretty awesome if it did.”

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Much better now.” She sighed. “I’m sorry for ... I don’t know what that is.”

“People make you do crazy things.”

She snorted. “Is this where you tell me that is why you killed people?”

“If you want to go down that road, if they left the dogs alone and didn’t hurt them, they would still be alive. They made me do it.” He shrugged.

“You really don’t care?” she asked.

“No.” He didn’t have a single feeling about it.

“That must be nice. I hate that I hit him.” She rubbed her hand. “I didn’t mean for it to go quite so hard.” She sighed. “He made me so mad. You know he called me a slut.”

“What?” Venom asked, and he jerked up in his seat. He was about to get to his feet, but Morwenna put her hand on his chest and forced him to sit back. In the process, she had thrown a leg over his body, and her hand was still on his chest.

He stared at her. She looked back at him. Their eyes locked.

Reaching up, he tucked some hair behind her ear. Her lips looked inviting, and he wanted to kiss them. He leaned up, and when she didn’t pull away, he closed the distance between them and pressed his lips against hers. A small moan escaped her lips, but she didn’t pull away. She hadn’t moved, and he risked putting his hand on her thigh.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Kissing you.” He stroked his hand up her thigh, then gripped her ass, to which she let out a little moan. “Unless you tell me not to.”

“We shouldn’t do this,” she said.

“Why not?” This was not a direct refusal.

“I’m still married.”
