I tapped my finger to my lip. “Hmm... I think I’ll take a Talk card this time around.”
Picking up the top card, I pretended to read it. “Tell the player across from you what you find most attractive about them.”
“Seriously?” She glanced at what she thought was the card she’d discarded on the floor, but didn’t pick it up. “Two of the same card? We should have shuffled better. What if I’d picked that one up too?”
I shrugged. “Guess you would’ve had to tell me another thing you find attractive about me. That would’ve been easy, obviously.”
Daria sipped her wine. “Fine. Go ahead. Make a crass comment about my ass or tits and get it over with.”
I’d rigged the game to do exactly that, but when my eyes snagged on her lips, my brain called an audible. “Your lips,” I said.
“Really? That’s so…clean.”
I smirked. “Not if I tell you what I could stick between them.”
“Pig.”
I laughed. “Seriously though, you have a great smile.” I pointed to the middle of her top lip. “The top of your mouth forms a little bow. And when you smile—really smile, not evil smile like you usually do around me—it feels like that bow is on top of a present.”
Daria blinked. “Oh my God. That’s so sweet.”
“I have my moments.”
She squinted. “You’re not trying to sweet talk me to get in my pants, are you? Because even though I’m already a little tipsy, that is definitely not going to happen.”
I shook my head. “Just pick a card, she-devil.”
“She-devil? That’s a new one.”
“Not really. I call you that in my head all the time.”
For the next few hours, Daria and I played the game. We also finished off the second bottle of wine, which was probably why I’d become so loose with my answers. Alcohol was like truth serum for me. But we laughed a lot and were having a pretty good time. Daria had just finished a dare where she had to fake an orgasm. She was definitely drunk now because she’d hiccupped in the middle of it, which made us both roll on the floor in hysterics.
“Your turn.” Hiccup. She covered her mouth. “Damn, these things won’t go away. You might have to scare me.”
I picked up a card from the Dare pile this time, figuring I’d wait until she least expected it before I tried to scare away her hiccups. Though once I read the card in my hand, I was the one scared.
Text your ex that you miss them.
CHAPTER 6
Daria
“Read it,” I chided as Cade continued to hold the dare card and not say anything.
What the hell is wrong with him? All of a sudden, he’s timid about this game?
“I…” He swallowed.
“What?”
He shook his head. “I can’t do this one.”
“I thought we were supposed to be playing by the rules!”
His face reddened. “Yeah, but—”
“Let me see.” I whipped the card out of his grasp before he could react. Text your ex that you miss them. Hmm… “Okay…” I looked up at him. “So, this one is definitely awkward, but I didn’t take you for the embarrassed-easily type.” I examined his face. “Unless you fucked up so badly with your ex that you’re too ashamed to text her? Exactly what did you do?”
