Halayna stood dumbstruck as he showed her how they worked. When he folded them back upright, he demonstrated how the table between them also played double duty. At first, it appeared to be a regular-looking table for four people to eat at, but it also opened into a long conference table.
On the other side of the aisle, there were four additional seats. As they moved to the back of the plane, they passed even more seating in various configurations, as well as leather sofas. There’d been a galley toward the front of the plane and a smaller one at the back just before they reached the bedroom.
“For long flights, I sleep in here,” Sloane said, and they stepped into the bedroom that was bigger than her first apartment.
It was beautifully decorated in blue, cream, and brown with dark wood accents and had all the comforts of home including a nice size bathroom.
“Sloane, this is amazing,” she said in awe, trying not to sound like she wasn’t used to luxury but failing miserably. “So, this is how the one percent live.” She hadn’t meant to say it aloud, but the words slipped through and Sloane chuckled.
“I don’t know about the rest of them, but this is how I live. This is also how you’ll be living too. I know it’s a lot, sweetheart, but I want you to be comfortable with the life you’re marrying into.”
Halayna nodded. Yeah, this was going to take some getting used to.
She was glad he had insisted on showing her around before everyone else boarded. Otherwise, she probably would’ve embarrassed herself in front of the others. This way, she could ooh and ahh in front of just Sloane.
“I’m glad you like everything. This will be a ten-hour flight, and I want you to feel at home here. Whatever you need, just let the flight staff know. If you want to stretch out, feel free to use the bedroom.”
“Okay,” she said, and they headed back to the main part of the plane just as everyone else was coming on board.
A short while later, they were in the air. Halayna chose a seat next to a window and Sloane sat beside her. Bristol took a seat across from them.
Conversation flowed easily, but Halayna wasn’t looking forward to the long flight, even riding in luxury. Yet she could see how Sloane could travel so much and not look worn out.
Hours later, Halayna’s eyes jerked open, and she lifted her head from the window. It was the middle of the night and though she was trying her hardest to keep her eyes open, she kept dozing off. The cabin was dark, and they’d been in the air for three hours. Sloane was still sitting next to her, and the only light in their area came from his laptop.
Laughter burst out from somewhere behind her, and that’s when she realized Bristol wasn’t sitting across from her anymore.
How was it that everyone seemed to be wide awake, and Halayna could barely keep her eyes open? She’d been up since five o’clock that morning, and thanks to worrying, she hadn’t had a good night sleep in days.
“Sweetheart, why don’t you go into the bedroom and lie down. You’ll be more comfortable,” Sloane whispered close to her ear, sending goosebumps racing up her spine.
In such a short amount of time, she was already getting used to having him around, and she had to admit, she loved his company.
She readjusted in her seat. “I’m okay.”
The offer was tempting, but it would be weird to take the bedroom while everybody else sat in the main part of the aircraft. Besides, she didn’t want to be in there by herself.
Instead, she rested her head against the window again, and within minutes she was dozing but soon jerked awake.
Righting herself, she blinked several times and squirmed in the seat. Maybe she could do some reading to stay awake until the others fell asleep.
Sloane closed his laptop and shoved it into a leather bag near his feet. Halayna watched as he stood, wondering where he was going. But then he extended his hand to her.
“Come on.” He tugged her to her feet.
“Where are we going?” she whispered silently as they headed to the back of the plane.
Sloane held her hand as they passed the others, and no one seemed to be paying them any mind. Now she knew what all the laughing and loud talking was about. They were playing some type of card game, and Reece and Bristol were arguing. Something they seemed to do often.
They finally reached the bedroom, and Sloane led her inside, closing the door behind them.
Helena wasn’t sure of his intentions, but when she looked at the huge bed, all she wanted to do was climb into it and fall asleep.
“Take off your clothes,” Sloane said.
Halayna’s head snapped to him, and she gaped. “Say what now?”
