Halayna was it for him. Over the next few years, he was going to do everything in his power to show her just how special she was to him. If he was lucky, she’d eventually fall in love with him, and they’d spend the rest of their lives together.

Halayna stared at him while still smiling, then leaned up and kissed him. “You say the sweetest things.”

She started to rest her chin on his shoulder but stopped abruptly.

“Whoa. I almost forgot you were wearing white. I don’t want to ruin your jacket by getting makeup on it.”

Sloane chuckled. Sometimes she said things that let him know she didn’t understand just how rich he was.

“I don’t care about makeup on my clothes. Remember that. I want you to rest your head, chin, or anything else of yours against me whenever you want without worrying about me getting dirty. And I mean that in every sense of the word.” He wiggled his eyebrows, and she burst out laughing, which was what he was going for.

“You’re mine now,” he said seriously. “That means I’m going to always be here for you. Whatever you want or need…”

He let the words trail off as emotion clogged his throat. He never knew he could have such strong feelings for another human being, but that’s what Halayna did to him.

She stared into his eyes as if being able to see deep into his soul, “Thank you, and I hope you understand that means you’re mine too. I’m going to be here for you, whatever you need or want.” Her gaze lowered when she said, “It also means I don’t want to hear about you being with any other women. At least not while we’re married.”

Sloane slowed and captured her chin within his hand, forcing her to meet his gaze and needing her to hear him clearly. “I would never cheat on you. I will always respect you and our marriage vows. You have my word on that.”

She searched his eyes before nodding. “Good.”

Sloane kissed her again, slower this time. He had a feeling kissing and loving on her was going to become his favorite thing to do.

Yeah, this was just the beginning for them.

He planned to spoil Halayna in every way possible, but just as the thought entered his mind, so did thoughts of Owen. He didn’t want Halayna to ever know what he’d done to get Owen out of her life.

So far, Sloane’s people hadn’t located him, but it was only a matter of time. However, when they did find him, Sloane was prepared to do everything in his power to neutralize the man who was a threat to his and Halayna’s future happiness.

He just hoped it all didn’t blow up in his face.

Chapter Twenty

Stretched out on a lounge chair, with the best view ever of the infinity pool and the ocean just beyond it, Halayna sipped her piña colada. The last five days had been like something out of a fantasy. She had to keep pinching herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

She’d been having the time of her life with Sloane during their honeymoon. Everything from a helicopter tour of a volcano, a walking tour through Hana rainforest, and she had even toured Pearl Harbor and watched a surfing competition in Oahu. The latter might’ve been her favorite activity, and had it not been for the brace on her hand, she would’ve taken surf lessons.

It was wild being on vacation and money not being an obstacle. Another first for her. She tried not to think about the cost of the short flights between islands and their numerous activities, but it was almost impossible not to. Sloane didn’t appear to waste money, but he made it clear that whatever they wanted to do, buy, or eat, they were doing it.

Then there was the sex.

She’d had more sex in the last few days than she’d had in years, and Halayna had no complaints. Sloane was not only the most generous man she’d ever met, but he was also a generous lover.

It worked out well they had the house to themselves. Well, except for a couple of security people, who managed to stay out of sight. Which she appreciated.

At first, Sloane hadn’t wanted to give the housekeeper and cook the time off, but Halayna had insisted, promising they could take care of themselves. His argument had been that he didn’t want her cooking and cleaning while on vacation. So, they compromised. The day they’d gone to Oahu, the housekeeper came in to clean, and the cook prepared several meals to get them through the week.

All in all, their honeymoon was exceeding her expectations, and they still had a couple of more days.

“Oh good. I didn’t miss the sunset,” Sloane said as he stepped out of the house.

He joined her on the two-person lounger that could easily double as a full-size bed and set his cell phone on the table next to them. When he wrapped his arm around her, Halayna snuggled against him.

“Sorry about the call. I know I promised not to work while we’re here, but Reece wanted to share some good news.”

“Oh yeah? And what’s that?”

“Watanebe chose our company to collaborate with on that new joint venture I told you about.”
