“I’m sorry,” she whines, lowering to her knees and grabbing either side of her face like she’s in pain. “I’m ssso hungry. I need to eat.”

“Let me guess. A human?” Micha asks, but Karma’s too busy rocking on the floor to answer. Panic makes me dart up and ignore the exhaustion overtaking my body. I tuck my cock away and stand, but Karma’s green eyes dart up to stare at me. She looks like a rabid animal and nothing like the orgasm-chasing woman she was moments ago.

“Step away slowly,” Soren warns quietly, and I see why. Her lips pull back to reveal teeth as a growl escapes her throat, and she looks two seconds away from pouncing.

She jumps forward. Micha slams his hand into me, throwing me back as Soren interjects and grabs Karma. She’s turned feral, scratching and kicking and attempting to bite. Hurt twists around my heart. I thought she wouldn’t want to eat me.

“When was the last time she ate?” I ask Micha as he pushes me towards the exit, and I see the fear lining his eyes as he watches Karma.

“I’ve never seen her like that,” he whispers, and it’s me who needs to knock him out of it this time.

“We need to help her. This isn’t her. We know it isn’t.”

Normally, I’d expect him to argue and say that she’s just a bit of fun gone wrong, but Karma’s ingrained into all of us now. He knows I’m right.

“I hate what I’m about to suggest.” He grabs my hand and drags me across the field. “We need to ask the one person here who knows her best.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

MICHA

The trailer is pitch-black when we step inside, the clouds covering the moon refusing to aid us. Arlo stays behind me like I instructed. I don’t think he minds that—I saw the nervousness in him when we approached the door, like we’re on our way to encountering a threat.

I guess we are.

Let’s hope Soren locked the cage.

“Spiral,” I whisper-shout, and Arlo grabs my hand as we walk deeper into the dark room. I let him hold it because despite my love of seeing him in physical pain and writhing with need, I don’t like him being scared outside of sex. “Spiral,” I repeat, and the silence stretches again.

If Spiral isn’t in the cage, then I don’t have a clue where he could be, and that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand. I may spend most nights patrolling the land of the dead, but I have common sense. Spiral is… Well, he’s a fucking maniac.

A sudden slam of flesh against metal makes Arlo squeak and press into my back. I quickly take my phone from my pocket and shine the flashlight into the cage.

Spiral’s face presses against the metal bars. His hands grip the poles and his lips pull up into an evil smile.

“It’s the brothers. Have you come to save the innocent prince locked away?”

“Shut up, freak,” I spit.

Arlo told me what they found him doing with Karma. I’m still furious over it, but I’m forcing it down. I need him to tell us how to fix Karma.

“Me freak?” he laughs, swaying side to side. “Says the incest duo.”

“We’re not blood related,” Arlo huffs, but I shake my head at him. He’s falling for Spiral’s bait.

“Karma’s woken up.”

Spiral freezes and raises an eyebrow. “Is she in pain?”

“No, she can’t feel pain despite your rotten drugs.”

“Shame,” he sighs, holding onto the bars and flopping his head back, stretching his neck. “I loved seeing her cry out in pain. It was so beautiful.”

He’s going to keep trying to piss me off if I don’t move this along. “She’s hungry. What do we do?”

His head jerks back up. “You’re asking me for help now?”

“Karma needs help,” I correct. “Tell us what she needs.”
