CHAPTER21
WHO KNEW FALLINGfor someone made such a difference in life? Samantha had been on a high ever since her visit to Nate last week. She hummed on her way to the break room at work to get more coffee.
“What has you so happy at work?” Becca asked, sitting at one of the tables, flipping through an old copy of Cosmopolitan. “Is it because it’s Friday?”
Huh? It hadn’t even registered to Samantha that it was Friday. Just one more thing to smile about.
“Seriously, girl. You are glowing. Please, share your secrets!”
Becca’s comment made her giggle. She joined her friend at the table in the break room.
“Perhaps it’s because my proposal for our next interest-free credit card was approved,” she said slyly, not mentioning a word about Nate.
Becca huffed. “Lies. I know this has nothing to do with a damn work proposal. What’s going on? Share with me so I can be both happy and jealous about whatever has you smiling.”
“Maybe I have plans this weekend I’m excited about.”
She didn’t.
Unless someone counted laundry, an oil change for her car, and cleaning her house exciting.
“Fine, I’ll take the bait. What plans do you have?”
Samantha couldn’t stop smiling. She wondered if everyone who had friends with amazing benefits felt this way. Granted, she wasn’t a fan of the title, but she wasn’t sure what else to call what was happening between her and Nate. Taking baby steps was probably the best option since they’d both agreed they still didn’t want to tell anyone what was going on.
“Okay, no plans. I’m just in a good mood.”
Becca retaliated with a stern look. “Okay, Miss Secrets. How about we have drinks next weekend?”
“Do you mind if Nate comes?” It was their last weekend together as man and wife. A couple days after, they’d meet in Vegas to get their nuptials annulled.
“Your hot as hell bestie you swear is just a friend?”
“The one and only.” Samantha omitted sharing anything else. Not until they both agreed they were ready. Once they were, she was telling Becca first.
“Hell yes he can come!” she responded, wagging her eyebrows up and down.
Samantha shook her head at her friend’s absurdity and went back to her workstation. When she picked up her cell, a text from Nate waited for her.
I miss the fuck out of you. Please tell me you don’t have plans so we can talk tonight.
This was one more thing she was becoming obsessed with: his sweet yet snarky texts. She sent him a reply.
My only plan was to talk to you. I’ll call after dinner and a shower.
He responded back about how she was a tease, which made her laugh.
Things were looking good for her and Nate. Nothing could make them take a step back at this point.
“WHY ARE WE leaving your bed?” Nate nagged Samantha. Since he arrived yesterday, they went to dinner, then spent all night and all morning in bed. Apparently, lunch time was when Samantha called it quits.
She sweetly pushed the strands of hair out of his face. “Because we’re meeting Becca for drinks. Noah’s game is on, and I thought we could all watch it and have a few beers.”
He tried to pull her back to bed, but she slid away from him. “We have an hour to shower, get dressed, and meet her.”
Fuck, he loved looking at Samantha. Especially when she was naked. It was a sight he would never get sick of seeing.
“I’ll be amendable to this so long as I can shower with you.”
