Sighing, I scrub my hand down my face. “Being with Elena feels wrong, but so does fucking anyone else. I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing.”
“Why don’t you try it with her? She’s legally your wife. And she will make a good old lady.”
“You know why,” I grumble, stretching my neck from side to side. “She’d run if she knew the shit we’re into.”
“We’re into?” He smirks. “We haven’t shared a woman since she got here. You get off on watching, Suit. She might be into that.”
“She’s a good girl. She’s not going to let me fuck her with my door open or in front of you. She’ll want me to make love to her every time.”
“Just because you were gentle with her that time doesn’t mean you always have to be. It was her first time, and you were leading. She might not be as vanilla as you think she is,” he says quietly, taking a sip of his whiskey. “Besides, smart men know that you find the kinkiest girls in the library, not the club. Look at the old ladies here.”
My lip twitches.
“You should have seen her tonight. She had Judge Atkens wrapped around her finger. She’s going to catch up with his wife, and I’m going to slide right in there to get him on our side.”
“For someone so sheltered, she’s a good person to have around. Prez was saying that she’s done wonders for our club investments,” he adds, dragging his eyes over my wife. “Everyone likes her, brother. She fits in here. And she’s not going to cheat or betray you.”
“You don’t know that,” I rasp.
“She hasn’t hit on any of us. Yeah, she checks us out, but so do all the women.” He pauses, and then adds, “She’s probably never even seen a shirtless man before she got here.”
“You think I could be a good husband to her?” I ask, frowning.
“I know you could. You need to stop assuming and see what she’s into. She might surprise you.”
“I don’t think I can be what she needs. She will thank me in the long run,” I mutter to myself, watching her as she throws her head back and laughs.
Angel stands and claps me on the shoulder. “And how would you feel if she belonged to one of the other men here?”
He leaves me with that and heads into the pole room.
Instead of joining him, I wait for Elena to go upstairs and then head to my room.
ELENA
“I overheard Suit bragging about how you got some judge to like you.” Amy smirks, lifting her arms to tie her hair back. I’d stepped into the bar to see if any of the women were around and wanted to go out for lunch, and instead, I ran into her. “At least you’re good for something.”
I channel my inner Faye Black.
“Well, at least I’ll be known for something other than sleeping around with anything in a cut,” I fire back.
She laughs. “If you’re fine being used by him, then good for you. We know he’s not using you for sex.”
With that parting shot, she walks away.
Was she with him last night? My throat tightens. I don’t know how much longer I can go on feeling this way. And is that why he asked me to message Paula? Is he using me to get an in with them? I mean, I don’t mind helping him, but why didn’t he just tell me that?
Between this and Amy jumping onto his lap, I feel sick to my stomach. Or maybe that’s because my father texted me, asking Suit and me to have dinner with him tomorrow night. I don’t know why he’s reaching out all of a sudden, but it makes me nervous.
I knew this marriage was going to be a disaster, but I let my feelings get in the way. I shouldn’t have let Suit get me into bed. I should have kept it as he wanted—distant, with no feelings attached. After seeing some of his friends so committed to their women, I thought maybe we had a chance. But either Suit isn’t built for monogamy, or he doesn’t like me enough to bother trying.
“What’s wrong?” Angel asks, sitting down on the couch next to me. When I first met him, he barely said two words, but he’s only recently opened up to me.
“Nothing,” I lie. Just accepting reality. This will be my life forever if nothing changes. Can we still get an annulment if we slept together? It was only a one-night stand. Oh God, how bad does that sound?
My husband and I had a one-night stand.
The club girls here have had him more than me, his wife.
