“They let him take her,” I said.

“I know.”

“They opened the fucking gate and waved him through like he was picking up takeout.”

“I know.” Priest walked down the steps slowly, hands visible, the way you approached a wounded animal. “But killing everyone who fucked up tonight won’t bring her back.”

“No.” I lowered the gun. “But it’ll make sure no one fucks up again.”

Priest’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, then looked up at me with something that might have been hope.

“Trey found something.”

I was moving before he finished the sentence.

We stood in the security room, staring at the monitor as Trey walked us through the footage.

“FLOK camera at the bridge at 19:34.” He tapped the screen. “Black Audi, Louisiana plates, heading toward the industrial berths off Ptolemy Street.”

The image was grainy but clear enough. Kaisen’s car. The timestamp matched.

“Pull everything you’ve got from that area,” I told Trey. “I don’t care if it’s a traffic light or a security camera on a bait shop. Find me that car.”

Trey’s fingers flew across the keyboard. “Give me five minutes.”

Those five minutes felt like five hours.

“I lost him. He had to know you’d pull the cameras. After the bridge, he uses rural back roads.”

“Fuck!” I barked. “I’m killing anyone who helped Kaisen take my family.”

“We’re going to Winston,” I said, making a B-line for the door.”

Priest stopped mid-stride, his phone still pressed to his ear. He turned slowly, his expression carefully neutral in that way that meant he was about to tell me I’d lost my mind.

“Amai—”

“Get in the fucking car.”

My voice didn’t sound like mine. It was something colder. Something that had stopped pretending to be human about twenty minutes ago.

Priest ended his call without another word and moved toward the Bentley. He knew better than to argue when I sounded like that.

I slid behind the wheel, my hands still shaking with adrenaline and rage. The engine roared to life, and I peeled out of the driveway hard enough to spray gravel across the lawn.

“Winston doesn’t know where Kaisen took them,” Priest said carefully. “He’s not going to—”

“Winston is the reason Kaisen thinks he has a claim to my family in the first place.” My knuckles were white on the steering wheel. “If that sick fuck hadn’t used Kaisen’s sperm without telling anyone, my brother wouldn’t have this delusional biological fantasy that Truth and Trumai belong to him.”

“That’s true,” Priest said quietly. “But killing Winston won’t bring them back.”

“I’m not going to kill him.” I took a corner too fast, tires screaming. “I’m going to make him tell me everything he knows about what Kaisen’s been planning. And if he doesn’t know anything—if he sat back and let this happen—then yeah, he can die today. I honestly don’t give a fuck.”

Priest was silent for a long moment.

“He’s your father.”

“He stopped being my father the day he decided Truth was a chess piece in his fucked-up dynasty games.”
