A king-sized bed with crisp white linens. A dresser. A nightstand with a lamp. A door that I assumed led to a bathroom.

It looked like a hotel room.

Sterile. Impersonal.

Safe.

“You can sleep here,” Kaisen said from the doorway. “For now.”

I turned to face him, my arms still wrapped around Trumai. “For now?”

“Eventually, we’ll share a bed,” he said simply. “Once things settle. Once you come to your senses.”

My stomach turned.

“That’s never going to happen.”

“It will.” He smiled—small, sad, like he pitied me. “You just need time.”

“Kaisen—”

“There’s a nursery across the hall,” he continued, ignoring me. “I’ll take Tru so you can rest.”

He stepped forward, reaching for my daughter.

I slapped him.

Hard.

The sound cracked through the room.

Kaisen’s head snapped to the side, his hand flying up to his cheek. He stared at me, his eyes wide with shock.

“Stay the fuck away from my daughter,” I said, my voice low and shaking with fury. “You don’t touch her. You don’t hold her. You don’t even look at her. Do you understand me?”

He lowered his hand slowly, his expression shifting into something I couldn’t read.

“Our daughter,” he said quietly.

“She’s mine.”

“Part of me is in her, Truth.” His voice was soft, almost gentle. “Whether you want to admit it or not. Part of me is inside her. And I’m going to prove it.”

My blood ran cold.

“What the fuck does that mean?”

Kaisen smiled—just a small, knowing curve of his lips—and turned toward the door.

“Get some rest,” he said. “We’ll talk more in the morning.”

And then he walked out.

The door clicked shut behind him.

I stood there, frozen, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might break through my ribs.

Part of me is in her.
