Beau
My condolences.
Carson
Hunter cooked.
Beau
Then you survived.
I smiled.
Meme was asleep when I got into the house. I locked the front door and headed upstairs. My prosthetic had started bothering me an hour earlier. Nothing serious or unusual, but when I sat on the edge of my bed and removed it, the relief came immediately.
I rested the prosthetic against the nightstand and ran my hand along the skin where the socket had pressed all day. For five years, I had made this leg responsible for every future I was afraid I couldn’t have.
Marriage.
Children.
Riding.
Love.
Sex.
Maybe that was too much weight to place on anything.
My phone buzzed, pulling me from my thoughts.
Beau
In bed?
My chest warmed.
Carson
Just got in.
Beau
Good.
Carson
Goodnight Beau.
The typing bubble appeared.
Beau
Night sweetheart, see you tomorrow.
