When we arrive, I turn to Atticus. “Are you coming in?”
He shakes his head. “Not this time. Tell Trigger I expect a call later.”
“I will. Thanks again.”
“Anytime.”
I climb from the car and head inside. As soon as I step inside the door, I see him.
My man. The man I plan to claim as my own. He has supported me through all of this without complaint. He has been my rock, and I’m ready to wear his.
Without a second thought, I walk right up to him, wrapping my arms around his neck as I pull his head down to mine. I press my lips to his, kissing him deeply. His hand grips my waist as he kisses me back.
When I pull back, he smiles down at me.
“What a welcome.”
“Get your hands off my woman,” I hear growled behind me.
When I turn, I’m stunned.
“You’re a fucking twin?!?”
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Hades
“You’re a fucking twin?!?”
I hear her shrill voice, but my eyes are focused on him. The mirror image of me.
I really thought he would have tried to separate himself from me, but nope. He looks exactly like me. Long hair, covered in tattoos. He hasn’t done a single thing different.
Then again, neither have I. I had the chance to change everything, but I kept it. I did it to keep part of him with me. So I remembered what he looked like the day I left.
I wonder if his reasoning is the same.
“You think that having a twin is something you should’ve, I don’t know, told your old lady?” Evelyn walks over, slapping me on the chest.
I don’t even feel it.
I can’t believe he is here.
“He is good at lying and betraying people. You should be careful who you go to bed with,” Remi tells her.
Evelyn spins toward him. “Uh-uh. Nope. We aren’t doing that. I know what he did to you, but you aren’t about to walk into our house and insult him.”
“Princess…”
“No,” she interrupts me. “Your brother is a good man. A bit misguided at times. An asshole, like, all the time, but a good man underneath. What he did to you was terrible. I understand if you never forgave him for it, but it was a decade ago. He did what he thought he had to in order to save you from someone who wanted to hurt you. That’s your brother. He sacrifices for those he loves. Even if it means he gets exiled and banished from his home because of it. So be mad, but you aren’t going to insult him.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Remi grinds out from between his teeth.
“I know that you two have avoided each other for ten years. You were asked to send people to help, but you did not have to come yourself. You came because somewhere inside of you, you still love your brother. So how about instead of keeping this macho bullshit up, you both grab a beer, walk outside and grab a chair, and then talk your shit out? You don’t have to like each other, but you share DNA. You will always love one another.”
I wait for Remi’s response. I expect him to tell her to fuck off. That he hates me and always will. That she needs to get fucked, which in turn will end with me fighting with my brother because I won’t let anyone talk to my girl that way.
I’m shocked when he grabs two beers before stalking past me, making sure his shoulder hits me as he goes.
